Season s Record Field Seen for Dub Pin Event - A _________ —— ENTRIES MING IN TO SILL WOOD Many to Compete for First Time in Stake Tourney. Rosslyn Girls Lead. WITH entries coming in from all quarters, the sixth an nual Bill Wood Dub Sweep stakes, opening Saturday at the Lucky Strike, promises to be the largest event of its kind of the season It will need at least 63 entries to top the mark set by the Old Dominion Handicap staged several weeks ago by Gait Davis at Rosslyn. Davis' tourna ment would have been larger had the Rosslyn plant been able to accommo date more bowlers. This probably was the first event in the bowling history of Washington for which entries were turned down because of numbers. Plenty to Draw From. ONLY bowlers with averages of less than 107 are eligible for the Wood tournament and there is an army of them. The average limit and the low entry fee. $5 including cost of 15 games, are expected to at tract duckpin shooters of both sexes and many who will be having their first experience in sweepstakes com petition. No bowler without a league affilia tion will be permitted to enter and the management of the tournament reserves the right to reject any entry. In the past several bowlers of near ttar ability, but with small league averages for the time being, have at tempted to "crash" the Dub Sweep •takes without success. Once again the Rosslyn girls are out Iront in the Ladies' District League, premier circuit of the city for fair bowlers. By sweeping a set with the Meyer Davis team, the Rosslyns broke a tie with the Lucky Strikes, defending champions, who dropped a jame last night to the Arcadias. The Bill Woods remained three games from first place by taking the odd one from Convention Hall. Barely Gets Over. Howard parsons· 16o was good 3nough by one pin to give him high game in the Com mercial League. The Continental Baking bowler just topped Lefty Allen's season record. With 420, Howard was eight sticks under the high set. J. McProuty. Southern Dairy, shot : 166 and 368 to breeze to honors in I the Merchants' Lengue. The George Isemann Sweepstakes, to be held here April 13 in honor ol the secrtary of the National Duck pin Bowling Congress, will be thor oughly a national event. Cities throughout the congress' territory are planning preliminaries with the win ners to receive their entry fees in the tournament.
