University Will Pay Tribute to John Carroll Tomor row Evening. W4h the apostolic delegate as the guest ot honor, Georgetown University will pay tribute to the memory of John Carroll, priest, prelate and Revo lutionary patriot, tomorrow evening at its annual founders’ day celebra tion. Academic exercises in honor of the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Archbishop Carroll, the principal founder and builder of Georgetown in 1789, will be held at 8:30 o’clock in Gaston Hall, before a distinguished audience of invited guests. Dr. Cole man Nevils, S. J., president, has re served the occasion for the conferring of honors on Most Rev. Msgr. Edward A. Pace, vice rector of Catholic Uni versity of America, and Edgar L. G. Prochnik, the Minister of Austria. Will Receive Medal. The medal of Georgetown’s honor ary academy In philosophy will be bestowed upon Msgr. Pace in recogni tion of the 44 years of distinguished teaching service in filling the chair of philosophy at the Catholic University. Mr. Prochnik will be given the medal of the academy of foreign service. For 15 years he has served as the Minister of his country in Washing ton. Most Rev. Amleto Giovanni Cicog nani. D. The Carroll Bicentennial has a real significance not only to alumni of Georgetown, but to Catholics in Wash ington and Maryland. As the first Archbishop of Baltimore he was the leader of his church in the early days of the Republic and in founding Georgetown College he established the first Catholic school in the United States dedicated to higher education. The Ambassadors and Ministers of more than a score of foreign gov ernments. in recognition of the world wide affiliations of the Jesuit order to which Archbishop Carroll was or dained. will march In the processional that will precede the exercises. Officials and deans of the Catholic University will attend in a body and among the guests in the procession will be also the heads of the 24 re ligious orders located at Catholic Uni versity. Historic Bell to Toll. Once a year at Georgetown, on founders’ day, the historic bell of the first Catholic church in Maryland is taken from the archives. Removed from the belfry of the church in old St. Marys City, where it had been since 1634, the bell has been a treas ured relic at Georgetown for more than a century. Tomorrow night it will be tolled as the name of each of the six founders of Georgetown is read at the exercises. Dr. Nevils has invited the guests to attend a reception immediately after the academic program and view an exhibit of Carroll relics and docu ments taken from the archives. GEN. SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 </P).— Globe Wireless, Ltd., reported recep tion of distress calls from the steamer Haiho near Fuchow, China, shortly before 6 a.m. (9 a.m. Eastern stand ard time) today. The ship gave Its position as lati tude 25.42 north, longitude 119.40 east.
