Figures From Jewish Home land Surpass Any in His tory of Race. JERUSALEM, March 30 (Palcor j Agency).—There are more Jewish agricultural settlements in Palestine today than there were 2,000 years ago. This was disclosed to the meeting here of the Actions Committee, the Supreme Council of the World Zion ist Organization, by Eliezer Kaplan, treasurer of the Jewish agency. Kaplan, speaking on behalf of the Keren Hayesod, which has been re sponsible for the launching or main taining of most of the settlements, said the total of 180 now existing in the Jewish homeland surpassed any figure in the history of the race. The report reviewed Jewish achievements in Palestine since 1921, when the Jewish large-scale recon struction program started under the impetus of the grant by the League of Nations to Great Britain of the mandate for Palestine, with the pro viso that a Jewish national home be established. The colonies cover an area of 1,300,000 dunams (four dunams equal an acre) and have a rural popula tion of 70,000, of whom 40,000 are actually engaged in farming. Twenty five new settlements were founded during the last year. The settlements were established with funds contributed by the Jews of the world. America has provided $13,000,000. New agreements be tween the Keren Hayesod and the settlers provide that the loans orig inally made to the colonies and to individual farmers will start being repaid in 1936 instead of in 1939, as the original contracts provide. These new agreements provide for rigid observance of the Sabbath. A report on Jewish immigration into Palestine by Dr. Isaac Gruen baum. head of the Immigration De partment of the Jewish agency, showed that between 1919 and 1934 a total of 198,035 Jews had entered Palestine. Of these, 77,425 were from Poland; 29.026 from the U. S. S. R., 15,209 from Germany. 8.599 from Rumania, 6,045 from Yemen. Arabia: 6,003 frcm Lithuania, and 4.363 from the United States. , — - » — - .. . Visitor to Be Honored.
