CHICAGO. May 10 HP).—The Na tional Safety Council in session here yesterday forecast that automobile fatalities in 1935 will exceed the rec ord high of 36,000 deaths last year, and pointed to careless drivers, the increased use of automobiles and higher speeds as principal causes. Liquor, the report said, was a con tributing factor to increased mis haps, although it was not regarded as one of the main factors. HOLMES DIES Former Pastor of Presbyterian Church Expires at Buffalo. Dr. Samuel V. V. Holme*, pastor emeritus of Westminster Church, Buffalo, who served as associate pas tor of the First Presbyterian Church here more than 40 years ago, died yesterday in New York City, it was learned today. He was 71 years old. After his ordination 'n the Presby terian ministry in 1(17 he became pastor of the First Church. Richfield Springs, N. Y. Y„ May 10 OP).— Nathan Haskell Dole, 13, author and translator, died in St. John's Hos pital late yesterday after a two weeks' Illness of heart disease. A native of Chelsea. Mass., he was graduated from Harvard. He was lit erary, art and musical editor of the Philadelphia Press from 1*81 to 1**7, and was literary adviser to T. Y. Crowell At Co. until 1901. Mr. Dole wrote "The Young Folks’ History of Russia” and "The Haw thorn Tree and Other Poems” early In his career, a long list of biogra phies and essays on music and the arts.
