1,1 SPECIALISTS American Psychiatric Unit Continues Sessions Un til Friday. The annual meeting of the Ameri can Psychiatric Association will open here tomorrow, with more than 1,500 Specialists in nervous and mental dis eases from the United States and Canada in attendance. The sessions will continue through Friday, with approximately 100 scien tific papers, giving accounts of the latest advances in the field of psy chiatry. Particular stress will be laid on the psychiatric implications in such associated sciences as general medicine, biology and the social sciences. The psychiatrists are opening their convention with an alarming picture of 500,000 hospital beds in the United States occupied by patients suffering from some nervous or mental dis order, as compared to 525.000 for vic tims of all other illnesses. According to a statement authorized by the as sociation today, one person in 22 dur ing the present generation will be at some time a patient in a mental hos- J pital. Fpilepsv to Be Topic. Tomorrow there will be precon vention meetings of the sections on j conclusive disorders and forensic psy- j Chiatry. The former group, headed by j Dr. Temple Fay. professor of neuro surgery at Temple University, will spend the day discussing the possible I causes and treatment of epilepsy. The forensic psychiatry section will discuss the legal aspects of the science. Hugh j H. Clegg of the Department of Justice ! will describe the work of crime in vestigation. Dr. Abraham Myerson of Boston will discuss the connection between head injuries and crime, and Is expected to ask for a clear state ment of the psychiatric position which may clear away supposed conflicts in testimony in the future. The convention will open officially Tuesday morning on the call of Dr. C. F. Williams. Columbia, S. C. pres ident of the association. There will be an address of welcome by Dr. a. B. Bennett, president of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. Tuesday afternoon there will be a symposium, over which Dr. Adolph Mysv of Johns Hopkins University will jrteside. on “The Material Dealt With as Personality Function.” This sym posium is for the purpose of better Integrating the diverse approaches made by workers in psychology, psy choanalysis. biochemistry and general medicine, each with their own peculiar concepts and language. There will be a child psychiatry symposium on Wednesday afternoon. Educators, child guidance experts and psychiatrists will consider the de velopment of the child to its fullest potentialities and prevention of con duct disorders through co-operation of experts in the various fields. Thursday will be given over to further consideration of laboratory and clinical reports. In the after noon there will be a consideration of administrative problems, especially dealing with quacks. There will be informal round table discussions Thursday evening by groups inter ested in particular phases of psychi atry. There will be a continuation of reports on clinical studies Friday, in cluding one study made of 200 male transients. Friday afternoon the mem bers will be guests of Dr. William A. SILVER SPRING, Md„ May 11.— Lease of the building and equipment of the Maryland Publishing Co., located at the intersection of Georgia and Sligo avenues, to the Cornelius Printing Co. of Indianapolis for a term of years, j was announced yesterday. Maj. E. Brooke Lee, former Demo cratic organization leader of Mont gomery County, is president of the Maryland concern, publishers of the Maryland News, the Columbia Heights News and the Silver Spring News, all j weekly newspapers. Under the new arrangement these papers will be printed by the Cornelius Printing Co., but will continue under their present ownership and management, it was eta ted.
