BONDS REGISTER Several Rail Issurs Move Point or More Higher. Volume Is Small. Bv the Associated Press. NEW YORK, July 13.—The bond market showed improved form today, especially in the speculative divisions, which had weakened in the late deal ings yesterday. Trading was of the usual Summer Raturday proportions, but. despite the moderateness of the bidding, several issues in the rail group managed to work ahead to the extent of a point or more. . 4 Prime loans were quiet, showing few important changes in values. United States Governments looked firm in the home owners’ loan division and a bit mixed in the Treasuries. In the 3s of 1946-1948 the price moved up 2 32 , of a point to 103.26. but this small gain contrasted with losses of around 'B of a point In Treasury 3s of 1951-55 and the new 27gs. Some loans of Erie, New York Cen tral and Nickel Plate came back a point or more. The last named pre sumably was helped by the Interstate Commerce Commission's opinion that ihe road "is not in need of reorgani zation at the present time.” This was handed down :n connection with the commission's aporoval of exten sion of some of Nick-.l Plate's R. F. C. loans. Fractional improvement marked Santa Fe 4s. Baltimore & Ohio 412s, Northern Pacific 4s, Southern Rail way 4s. United Drug 5s and Voungs tow-n Sheet & Tubs 5s. Italian bonds continued their re covery. Other fore^n groups were featureless. Chicago Grain Pr the Associated Press. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, July 13.—Alone of all the grains, corn U just now displaying a relatively consistent trend toward higher prices. Extreme scantiness of visible stocks of corn at commercial centers, to gether with offlclal estimates showing corn reserve supplies on farms are Inadequate for ordinary uses, gives the com market underlying strength. In addition, the United States Depart ment of Agriculture 1s at present fore casting the prospective 1935 domestic yield of com as likely to be more than 100,000,000 bushels below recent authoritative private estimates. Compared to one week ago, com was %-2tf cents a bushel higher this morning, with wheat at % decline to Vs advance, oats 1 Vi off to Vs up, and provisions showing 22 to 45 cents gain. Corn trade specialists say the ap proximate 100.000,000 bushels offlclal curtailment of the 1935 probable yield or com, as compared wun latest un official figures, may be looked upon as reflecting delay in planting oper ations over a wide area this Spring and the unthrifty status of the crop on July 1. Since that date, weather conditions have been more favorable for com, and the outlook now is re garded as having improved, but the harvest is still months away. On the other hand, supplies of available com are steadily diminishing, and steep premiums form the rule at terminal markets. In contrast however with com. other domestic feed grain crops are generally expected to be heavy, and the outlook in particular is for abun dant pasturage and hay yields. Mean while. Argentine com shipments to the United States are increasing, with a total of 2.020.000 bushels this week. Chicago traders say the imports of Argentine com take the edge off the domestic shortage to some extent, but are not yet competing much in West ern areas. Wheat prices are hinging largely on black rust developments. Oats and rye markets face bumper crops of those cereals. Provisions show the effect of record high quotations on hogs.
