October 9.—Mrs. John Creighton was arraigned and held for the grand jury today on a murder charge in the poison death of Mis. Everett R. Applegate after District At torney Martin W. Littleton. jr„ said Bhe had made a second confession ab solving the woman’s husband. Littleton said she had confessed that *he poisoned Mrs. Applegate gradually, •without help from any one else, be cause of a desire “to get even.” This desire, Littleton quoted Mrs. Creighton as saying, was prompted by rumors Mrs. Applegate was spreading concerning Mrs. Creighton’s connec tion with two poison deaths in New ark. N. J-, in 1923. At that time Mrs. Creighton was tried ana acquitted on charges of poisoning her brother, Charles R. Avery, and her mother-in law. Former Killing Hem Admitted. The district attorney reiterated to day that Mrs. Creighton had con fessed fhe gave her brother poison "to end his suffering" because he Was a cripple. She has denied, however, Littleton said, that she administered poison to her mother-in-law. Applegate, whom she had implicated In a previous statement, has been in Jail on a charge of criminally attack ing Mrs. Creighton’s 15-year-old daughter Ruth. He will await grand Jury action in the assault case, which police said was disclosed during the tnurder investigation. She began a series of administrations Immediately, giving the poison to Mrs. Applegate first in coffee, then in Various foods.” He said Mrs. Creighton admitted she continued the doses until Septem ber 21, when Mrs. Applegate was taken to a hospital, and resumed them when the returned September 25. He had not discovered how much poison or how many doses had been administered, Littleton said. “I gave her a terrific dose,” he quoted Mrs. Creighton, "the night after she returned from the hospital. I put it In an eggnog Mr. Applegate and I made. He gave it to her with out knowing what was in' it.” Geneva (Continued From First Page.) telegrams from the secretary general to all governments will be started.
