THIRD FIRE IS SET. SIX DIE IN FIRST Woman and 5 Children Per ish in Tenement Flat in Harlem. Sr tha Associated Press. NEW YORK. November 4.—A new blaze, set In rubbish piles In a Harlem apartment house, was discovered and extinguished today as police searched for a firebug blamed for a tenement bouse fire which took six lives. Fire Marshal Thomas Brophy said he believed the new fire had been set by the person responsible for the deaths of Mrs Margherlta di Donato, 36, and her fiw ahlldren. Ttieir ftocnes were found in the kitchen of their fourth-floor flat after a fire early yesterday. From 7 to 15 years old, the children apparently had huddled around their mother and perished with her while Luigi Di Donato. 25-year-old relief worker and sole survivor in the family, staggered about East 121st street, too hysterical to tell firemen of their peril. Meanwhile, fire officials said, the same pyromaniac was firing another Harlem tenement. The second blaze, started in a baby carriage, was quickly extinguished. The six victims of the first fire were trapped in their fourth-floor apart ment, Firemen entering the room* found the bodies, some nude, some in scanty nightclothes, piled on top of each other in the middle bed room. Spectacular rescues by firemen who flambered up 85-foot ladders saved the lives of another family of three in the same building. Mrs. Mary Cunningham and her two sons, Thomas. 9, and Joseph. 6. About 40 other tenants left their ‘'railroad" flats by rear balconies to cross over to adjoining buildings and to safety. An 88-year-old woman was assisted to the street by her son. MAJ. HILL IS BURIED Bombing Plane Victim Given Military Honors. NEWBURYPORT. Mass.. Novem ber 4 (4>).—Funeral services for Maj. Floyer P. Hill. Army Air Corps officer killed Wednesday in the crash of a large bombing plane at Wright Field. Dayton, Ohio, were held yesterday at the Newburyport Universal 1st Church. GIRL IS KIDNAPED Chicago Police Seek Man Who Held Her After Robbing Escort. Br tbe Associated Praia. CHICAGO, November 4 —Mis* Jose phine Seidel, It, was kidnaped and assaulted yesterday In the latest of a series of moronic attacks that has nonplussed authorities. Her assailant, armed with a knife and revolver, appeared as the girl and her escort, Urban Kimmel, 20, were leaving a dance in suburban Blue Is land. They drove to Willow Springs, where Kimmel was robbed and ejected. Despite an Intensive search by high way patrolmen aroused by Kimmel. the moron held the young woman pris oner nine hours before he let her out of the machine on the far South Side. Although Mis* Seidel was placed under a physician’s care, she gave offi cials a thorough description of the abdurtor. She reported he was about 25, of medium height and weight, wore an onyx ring bearing the Initial “M” and told of working in a Joliet bakery. Detectives have sought a man of this general description since he spread terror through the West Side by whipping and assaulting several women, within the last week one woman was brutally beaten by an Intruder who wielded a lead pipe, an other was struck with a hammer and a girl was assaulted by a degenerate gunman who forced his way Into her hotel room. - ■ — ■ . 9 MARTINSBURG RITES HELD FOR MRS. Va., Novem ber 4.—Rites will be conducted here today for Mrs. Myrtle Virginia Bayles, 26, wife of James L. Bayles, and a res ident of Clarendon, Va., who died Friday at the home of a brother, Charles Penwell, this city. She had been ill three months. She was a daughter of S. H. and Sarah Penwell and resided here before moving to Virginia. ■Survivors are the husband, parents and three children. Richard, Mary and Betty Bayles of Clarendon and nine brothers.
