Mrs. Roosevelt Hostess To Small Company at The White House Today British Embassy Scene of Dinner Party. Members of Diplomatic Corps in the News. MBS. ROOSEVELT returned to the White House this morn ing and had as her guests at luncheon the Hon. Lady Lindsay. Lady Astley Cubitt, Mrs. Henry Morgenthau, jr.; Mrs. Henry A. Wallace, Mrs. Rexford Tugwell and the Minister to Denmark, Mrs. Ruth Bryan Owen, who is a guest at the White House. The President's wife will receive at the tea hour at the mansion today the Minister of Yugoslavia and Mme. Fotich. Mrs. Roosevelt attended the lunch eon given yesterday in New York by the Junior League. Later the Presi dent's wife spoke at the annual meet ing of the Girls' Service League of America at the Hotel Plaza. Mrs. James Roosevelt, mother of the President, attended the dinner and musicale given last evening in New York by Mme. Alma Clayburgh in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Benet of Paris. His Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador and the Hon. Lady Lindsay entertained at dinner last evening, when their guests were the Ambassador of Cuba, Senor Dr. Guillermo Patterson y de Jauregui; the Assistant Secretary of State and Mrs. Sumner Welles, Lady Astley Cubitt, the charge d’affaires of Canada and Mrs. Hume Wrong, the military attache of the French Em bassy and Mme. Lombard, the special assistant to the Secretary of State and Mrs. James Clement Dunn, Mrs. Hen Ben Jennings, the newly appointed sec retary of the Italian Embassy and Contess Robert). Mr. and Mrs. Dean Acheson, the financial counselor of the British Embassy and Mrs. Kenneth Bewley, Mr. Coleman Jennings and the Hon. Mark Watson. The Attorney General and Mrs. Homer S. Cummings will entertain at their home. Ruthven, Sunday from 4:30 until 6:30 o'clock. The Ambassador of Belgium, Count Robert van der Straten-Ponthoz, re turned to the Capital last evening from Hew York, where he arrived Tuesday On the lie de France from Belgium. The counselor of the embassy and Charge d’affaires ad Interim, Prince Eugene de Llgne, will sail tomorrow from New York on the He de Prance for Belgium, where he will join the princess de Llgne for a vacation. The Ambassador of Mexico, Senor Dt. Pransisco Castillo Najera, ac companied by the first secretary of the embassy. Dr. Don Salvador Mar lines Mercado, will leave the Capital tomorrow for Mexico for a short leave of absence. The Ambassador of Turkey, Mr. Mehmet Munir Ertegun, was the ranking guest at dinner last evening At Wardman Park Hotel, of Dr. Nar eiso Garay, secretary of education of Panama, who has come to Washing ton as a delegate to the Treaty Com mission. Senhorita Zazi Aranha, daughter of P . the Ambassador of Brasil and Senhora de Aranha, and her aunt, Senhorita Lais Aranha, and Senhorita Alzira Varges, daughter of the President of Brazil, left the Capital yesterday by motor for Chicago. They will be gone a week. There will be no formal celebration of the 46th birthday anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Brasil at the embassy today. The Minister of Norway, Mr. Wil helm Munthe de Morgenstieme, is in New York where he attended the din ner given last evening by Mr. Gunnar Holst of Oslo, Norway. The newly-appointed Minister of Latvia, Dr. Alfred Bilmanis, has come to the Capital from New York and has taken an apartment for the present at 2400 Sixteenth street. Mme. Bilmanis will Join him later in the season. She is remaining longer in their home In Riga. — Representative William P. Brunner of Rockaway Park, N. Y., is in his I apartment at the Wardman Park Ho j tel for a few days. Judge Ernest H. Van Fossan of the United States Board of Tax Appeals and Mr. Van Fossan will entertain at a buffet dinner this evening In honor of Mr. Justice and Mrs. Harlan Fiske Stone. Judge and Mrs. Van Fossan will be hosts at dinner again tomorrow eve ning in honor of Dean and Mrs. Chris tian Christianson of the University of Wisconsin. Alumni to Honor Head of University Dr. David Shaw Duncan, the new chancellor of the University of Denver, who is in the East for a brief stay, will be the guest of honor at a dinner to be given by the alumni of the uni versity tomorrow evening at the Dodge Hotel. Mr. Wayne C. Williams, special assistant to the Attorney General in the Department of Justice, has charge of the arrangements. Ail alumni and former students are invited.
