market today. Metals, utilities and
specialties were the most active
groups.
Bunker Hill & Sllivan advanced
more than 1% points, Aluminum Co.
was 1 higher, and fractional im
provement was shown in American
Gas, Electric Bond & Share, Cities
Service, Ainsworth, Pan-American
Airways and International Petroleum.
A few scattered lowers Included
Gulf Oil. Parker Rustproof and Creole
Petroleum.

wood mills.
Production as reported by 5 per cent
fewer mills was 2.5 per cent under
that of the previous week; shipments
were 2 per cent above that week;
new orders were 7 per cent above.
Reported lumber shipments were 3
per cent below production during
the week ending the 18th, new or
ders were 25 per cent above output.
During the previous week shipments
were 7 per cent below output and or
ders 14 per cent above.
All items in the current week were
shown by reporting mills in excess of
similar week of 1935, production at
those mills being 56 per cent above
last year; new business, 38 per cent
above; shipments, 20 per cent above.

BALTIMORE, January 27.—The
Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co.
of Baltimore today called in $3,000,
000 of 7 per cent preferred stock
for redemption at 110. It will be
redeemed as of April 15.
Dividends were declared on it until
then. No new financing of a per
manent nature is planned at this
time.
The redemption will be handled by
the treasurer of the company.

production during the current week
was estimated today by the American
Iron & Steel Institute at 49 4 per
cent of capacity, compared with 49.9
per cent last week.
A month ago production was at the
rate of 46 7 per cent, and a year ago
it was 52.5 per cent.

ASSETS AT NEW PEAK

NEW YORK. January 27— Home
Life Insurance Co., in its annual re
port for 1935 shows total assets rf
$86,659,621, the largest in the com
pany's history and an increase of
$5,116,940 during the year. New in
surance, not including annuities of
any type, was 4 per cent greater than
for the preceding year, and insurance
in force increased during the year by
$2,052,929.

FIRE APPARATUS ORDERED.
Shipments of virtually all types of
fire-extinguishing apparatus increased
substantially last year over 1934 fig
ures. according to statistics gathered
by the Census Bureau from manu
facturers Motor apparatus shipments
increased to 540 pieces from 375 in
1934, while hand types totaled 341,
863 against 266,147 the year pre
vious.
