Methods to ’ >e followed for meeting the Treas iry’s March and April maturities and ;he veteran bonus are expected to be mtlined by the Treasury in an an nouncement around March 1. , United States Government bonds have given no hint of any concern that the Treasury will depart from the "orthodox” course in raising the needed funds. They have shown an even and stable tone, with occasional trace of strength since Mr. Morgenthau gave notice a few weeks ago that the Treasury had no intention of going afield from the established financing methods. EGG PRICES UP Warmer Weather Brings Drop of 8V2 Cents a Dozen. Butter Also Sags. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO. February 24.—Egg prices tumbled 8 cents today, the sharpest break in the market veteran traders said they recalled. Warmer weather, stimulating the flow of eggs from country to market, prompted the decline. ‘ Spot eggs were selling around 22^ to 23 '/a cents a dozen, compared with 30 to 32 on Friday. Receipts totaled 17.325 cases. During the prolonged cold weather egg prices scored spectacular gains be cause of greatly reduced production 8nd crippled transportation facilities keeping market receipts at a mini mum. Butter prices also dropped back rather sharply. Cash butter was 1 to 1 \ cents lower, with extras selling at 35’i cents, compared with 37 cents last week, the highest in six years. i'ie.w lunft, reuruary it i/r/.— Egg quotations in the New York mar- ! ket declined from 2 to 3'i cents a dozen today, with standard and com mercial standard firsts down about 3 cents to 33 cents a dozen. Today’s decline brought the price of standard and commercial standard firsts down 6 cents a dozen from the recent high of 39 cents a dozen 10 days ago. Buttter sagged 1% to 2 cents a pound, with the price of extras, 92 score, down l-\ cents to 36 cents a pound. Trade circles said weakness in both 1 markets was attributable to expecta tions of more liberal receipts on warmer weather in the West. CHICAGO LIVE STOCK. Jy the Associated Press. NEW YORK. February 24.—Wall 3treet commodity men are pleased ;hese days when a big business cor poration Joins one of the leading fu tures markets. When the dangers of excessive spec ulation are being much dismissed in Washington and elsewhere, commodity prokers say such an event illustrates afresh the prime purpose of the or ganized staple exchanges. This purpose, they explain, is the providing of a place for business men to "hedge” their commitments in ma terials. By hedging against price fluctuations, they point out, business concerns are able to take the gamble out of accumulation of materials. A new recruit to the membership of the New York Commodity Ex change a few days ago was Sears, Roe buck Si Co. This exchange provides hedging facilities in crude rubber, raw silk, copper, tin, lead and hides. It has also established a futures market In gasoline and crude oil. although dealings in those items have been meager. The biggest hedging markets in the country are provided by the Chicago Board of Trade and the New York Cotton Exchange. DETROIT BONDS OFFERED.
