Husband, Famous Anthro pologist, Died Some 40 Days Ago. Mrs. Arthur MacDonald, widow of Dr. MacDonald, famous anthropolo gist, died last night of pneumonia In Garfield Hospital—some 40 days after the death of her husband, whom she had aided for many years In sci entific studies and writings. For many years Mrs. MacDonald had spent long hours in the Library of Congress with Dr. MacDonald in research work. Shortly before her illness she had visited the Library to finish up some work in which she and Dr. MacDonald had been engaged shortly before the latter’s death. Mrs. MacDonald was removed to the hospital yesterday afternoon from her apartment at 314 East Capitol street. A brother is taking charge of funeral arrangements, it was said at the residence. A resident of this city since 1902, Mrs. MacDonald had been active in a number of organizations. She was a past president and founder of the Women’s National Society of Keep Wells, a past president of the Wom en’s Clinic, former publicity chair man of the Political Study Club, a member of the Mary Washington Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was the author of several books, among them “Keeping Well Physi- j cally, Morally and Mentally." “Recon-1 struction and Peace Times,” "Thi Witch,” a drama, and “Pioneer Oirli oi America." A native of Williamsport, Md.. Mrs MacDonald before her marriage wai Miss Margaret J. Porterfield. She wai educated at public and private school) and at Kee Mar College, Hagerstown Md. She was married to Dr. Mac* Donald in September, 1004. COL. THOMASON DIES; ARMY EX-SURGEON Retired Officer Serred in Spanisl American and World Wars. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, February 28.—Lieut Col. Henry D. Thomason, retired U. 8 Army surgeon who served in both thi Spanish American and World Wars died at his home here yesterday. Hi was 77. Col. Thomason was born in Dayton Ohio, and received his medical degrei from the University of Pennsylvania His 22 years of active Army service to' eluded a period in the Philippine under Oen. John J. Pershing. Dur ing the World War he was in chargi of the base hospital at Oswego, N. Y. and held the rank of colonel. After his retirement in 1920 hi served for a time as superintendent o the Flower Hospital and then becami a ship's surgeon with the United State Lines, the Dollar Line and the Furness Withy Bermuda Line. I CHISM EXPIRES AT MOUNT ALTO Past Commander-in-chief of Spanish War Veterans III But Five Days. i Capt. Daniel V. Chisholm, past commander in chief of the United i 8panlsh War Veterans, died In Mount Alto Hospital today after an illness of five days. Capt Chisholm was born January 10. 1873. in Columbia, 8. C„ and was educated in the schools of his native State. He began his military career i in 8outh Carolina as a member of the prize-winning Richland Volunteer Rifle i Company. Moving to Washington as a young man, he was employed In the Govem | ment Printing Office, later becoming deputy public printer under President ! Wilson. i Joins District Guard. He continued his military activities i by enlisting In Company A, 6th Bat , talion, District National Guard, and soon was promoted to lieutenant. Dur ! ing this period he served as a member ' of the Emmett Guards Drill Team, ' which won an Inter-State match at > Little Rock. Ark. Later he transferred to the Morton Cadets. Company G, District of Co 1 lumbla. He was commissioned cap tain of that company following the resignation of Capt. Ed Shilling. Ninety-eight per cent of this company volunteered and were accepted when f President McKinley called for volun • teers In the Spanish-American War. 1 Capt. Chisholm enlisted as a first lieu tenant and later, In Tampa, Fla., was transferred to the staff of Maj. Urell as an adjutant, serving until 1898. Drill Team Captain. Capt. Chisholm also had served as captain of the Odd Fellows’ Drill Team which won matches in many of the principal cities of the United States j and Canada. Surviving are his widow. Mrs. Jo anna Chisholm; a daughter. Mrs. Hazel Mann, wife of Maj. Walter Mann, now stationed at Portland, Oreg.; a granddaughter, Joan, and a brother, John, of Washington. Funeral services will be held Mon day from the home. 2125 Fifteenth street. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
