Annapolis Social Notes Mrs. Walter Anderson Renews Old Friendships in Naval Colony. ANNAPOLIS, Md„ February 29.— Mrs. Walter S. Anderson, wife of the naval attache of the United States Embassy In London, spent some time In Annapolis last week renewing old friendships. She was the honor guest at a luncheon given by Mrs. John F. Shafroth cn the U. S. S. Reina Mer cedes, where Comdr. Shafroth is sta tioned. Mrs. Shafroth was unable to be present at the luncheon because of a sudden call to New York, owing to the illness of her mother, Mrs. A. H. Fischer. Miss Helena Shafroth, daughter of Comdr. and Mrs. Shafroth, presided at the luncheon and the guests in cluded Rear Admiral and Mrs. David F. Sellers, Mrs. Carryl H. Bryan and the officers who were formerly on duty on the U. S. S. West Virgiinla, with Rear Admiral Anderson and their wives, among whom were Comdr. and Mrs. James A. Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Chilton Heward of Montreal, Canada, are the guests of Mrs. Heward's brother-in-law and sister. Lieut. Comdr. and Mrs. J. Harrison Colhoun, at their home Westview at West River. Saturday afternoon, Comdr. and Mrs. Laurence T. du Bose gave a cocktail party at their charters on Upshur road in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lloyd, jr., of New York. Besides the guest of honor those present were Commodore and Mrs. Edward Lloyd, Comdr. and Mrs. Oscar C. Badger, Comdr. and Mrs. William Quigley, Comdr. and Mrs. Andrew C. Bennett, Comdr. and Mrs. Theodore T. Patterson, Mr. Forbes Colhoun and Comdr. William W. Meek. Mrs. L. Calvin Bertolete, who spent the past 1(^ days in Annapolis, left .Friday to be the guest of Mrs. Edgar Allen Poe, jr„ at her home in the Green Spring Valley. After visiting Mrs. Poe Mrs. Bertolete will go to New York, where she will spend the remainder of the Winter with her daughter. Mrs. Allen Lindley, jr„ at her apartment on Seventy-first street. ; Capt. and Mrs. John Henry Newton gave a dinner on Wednesday evening at their home on Bowyer road in honor of Mrs. Bertolete. Mrs. Carryl H. Bryan gave a luncheon on Tuesday at her home on King George street in honor of Mrs. Edward H. H. Old. wife of Capt. Old (M. C ), U. S. N„ who is the guest Of Mrs. William Jeffers. Mrs. W. Thomas Kemp gave a luncheon on Friday at her home on Franklin street in honor of Mrs. Amon Bronson, w’ife of Capt. Bronson. U. S. N., retired. The guests, beside the guest of honor, were Mrs. David Foote Sellers, Mrs. Hollis R. Cooley, Mrs. Charles S. Leiper, Mrs. Frank B Zahm, Mrs. Charles V. O. Ter williger, Mrs. Robert Hilliard. Mrs. Julia Murphy. Mrs. John Bowers, Mrs. H. Kent Hewitt and Mrs. Ray Spear. At the large tea given by Mr. and Mrs. F. Marion Lazenby on Saturday afternoon at their, home on Taney avenue those assisting Mr. and Mrs. Lazenby were Mrs. Allen Westcott, the Misses Woodward, Mrs. John M. Green, Mrs. Daniel M. Garrison, Mrs. Charlas V. O. Terwilllger and Mrs. Robert Burwell. Dr. Paul Allen of St. John's College and Mrs. Allen gave a small bridge party on Saturday evening at their home on Murray avenue. The guests included Miss Louise Kemp, Prof, and Mrs. Richard Scofield, Mr. and Mrs. Waters, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jack son, jr.; Mr. John Smythson and Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. O. Terwilliger. Capt. and Mrs. Franklin D. Karns gave a small dinner on Saturday eve ning at their home on Maryland ave nue preceding the dance given at the Officers' Club at the Naval Academy. Capt. and Mrs. Karns have had as their guest during the past week Miss Annette Morris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Morris of New York City and The Trees. Ossining, N. Y. Miss Morris is now the guest of her brother in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward Childers, at the Kennedy-War ren Apartment in Washington. Miss Morris has frequently visited in An napolis during the tour of duty he;e of her brother-in-law. Lieut. Comdr. Earle Kincaid, who, with Mrs. Kincaid, is now in China. Mrs. E. H. Robertson gave a tea on Friday afternoon at her home on Shipwright street. Mrs. George Kees ter, Mrs. John Green and Mrs. Stand ley Leith presided at the table and were assisted by Mrs. Richard W. Dode, the Misses Ruth Hall, Betty Pease and the Misses Jean and Camilla Robert son, daughters of the hostess. At the tea given by Prof, and Mrs. Charles Lejper on Thursday after noon at their home on Acton place, in honor of Capt. and Mrs. H. Kent Hewitt, who will shortly leave the Naval Academy. Mrs. Leiper’s sister, Mrs. T. W. Friend of Pittsburgh, Pa„ assisted the host and hostess. Those in the dining room were Mrs. John T. Bowers, Mrs. W. Thomas Kemp. Mrs. Alexander M. Miss Priscilla Stockwell gave two teas this week—one on Monday and another on Tuesday afternoon at her home, Langtarry, at Wardour, in honor of her aunt, Mrs. Maud M. Neal of Richmond, Va. After an extended trip to Nassau, Mr. and Mrs. Weinberg will make their home in New York. The bride is well known in Washington, where she has often visited. Capt. Harold E. Stow, who Is at present with the 14th Infantry at Fort Davis, Canal Zone, and Maj. Benjamin G. Ferris, who is now at Fort Humphreys, have both received orders for Fort Meade. Capt. Rupert D. Graves spent last week end at Governors Island, N. Y., where he visited Mrs. Graves’ parents, Coi. and Mrs. Alvin Voris. Mrs. Graves, who has been the guest of her parents since early in November, and her little daughter Helen ,are re turning to the post today. Capt. Graves is taking the chemical war fare course at Edgewood Arsenal and will return to the post for duty in several weeks. Lieut. John H. Stokes, Field Artil lery Reserve, who has been ill at the post hospital, was transferred during the week to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, where he is now receiving treatment. Lieut. Dorsey H. Cullen of the Cav alry Reserves, on duty at Fort Meade with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and Mrs. Cullen, who reside in Laurel, spent last week end in Philadelphia, where they attended the wedding of Mrs. Cullen’s brother, Mr. Frank Kearney, to Miss Helen Manning. Lieut, and Mrs. Robert H. Chard and their young daughter Virginia motored to Norfolk, Va., last week, where they spent the week end with Mrs. Chard's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dey, Jr. Miss Cecil Marrack, who with her mother, Mrs. Cecil Marrack of Palo Alta, Pa„ are visitors on the post at present, had as guest for several days last week end Mr. Edward Latham of New York City. Word has been received on the post that Col. Edmund C. Waddill, who with Mrs. Waddill and the latter's daughter. Miss Ida May Esmond, were popular members of post society pre vious to their present station, is to retire from active service today. The Waddills are at present in San Fran cisco at the Presidio. Lieut. Cpl. Henry D. P. Munnik huysen, who has been on leave in Florida for the past three weeks," where Mrs. Munnikhuysen is resting after a recent serious illness, is ex pected to return to the post today. Mrs. Munnikhuysen will remain in the South for a while longer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Heim of Kansas City, who are also sojourning in Florida for several weeks. Mrs. Loren A. Boncesco, wife of the financial secretary of the Rumanian Legation, will leave the early part of the week for Mexico. She will spend a week in New Orleans and will be the guest in Mexico of the counselor of the Rumanian Legation and Mme. The Ru manian Legation in Mexico City is a newly created post, which was estab lished a few months ago by Mr. M. D. Draghlcesco, who visited in the Capital in December. Mrs. McMillin Honor Guest at Luncheon Mrs. Lucile Poster McMillin will be the honor guest tomorrow at the luncheon at the Woman's National Democratic Club. Mrs. McMillin, who is a member of the Civil Service Com mission, will discuss that function of the Government. As wife of the Governor of Tennessee, who later be came the United States Ambassador to Peru, Mrs. McMillin has always taken an active interest in govern ment.
