Foreign Ambassadors Share Dinner Honors; Other Official News Mme. Sze Back From Lengthy Stay in China. Netherlands Legation Guests Will Hear Noted Pianist Today. ' THE Ambassador of Turkey and Mme. Ertegun will share honors with the Chinese Ambassador. Dr. 8ao-Ke Alfred Sze. at dinner Monday which Col. and Mrs. M. Robert Guggenheim will give in their home on Woodland drive. Col. and Mrs. Guggenheim have as their guests over Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Frederick I* van Lennop of Bryn Mawr, Pa, in whose honor they will entertain a small company at an informal buffet supper tomorrow evening. The Chinese Ambassador, Dr. Sao-Ke Alfred Sse, was Joined yesterday by Mme. Sze. who has been visiting in her home in China for several months. Mme. Sze will not observe her days at home until after Easter. Mme. van Haersma de With, wife of the Minister of the Netherlands will be hostess this afternoon in the legation when her guests have been asked to hear a program by Egon Petri, famous pianist, who appeared as soloist recently with the National Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Hans Kindler, conductor. Representative and Mrs. Harry B. Coffee were hosts at a dinner in the ball room at the Shoreham last evening. Their guests were Representative and Mrs. Harold D. Cooley, Representative and Mrs. Phil Ferguson, Representative and Mrs. Emmet O'Neal, Representative and Mrs. D. Worth Clark and Representative and Mrs. Paul R. Greever. The assistant naval attache of the British Embassy and Mrs. Mark-Ward law will return today from a week's stay in New York, having made the trip bv motor. Former United States Ambassador to Italy, Mr. Larz Anderson, who has been with Mrs. Anderson in their home. Weld, at Brookline, Mass,, has gone to White Sulphur Springs where he will spend the early Spring at the Greenbrier. Mr. Anderson was among those attending the opening Thursday of the Green brier Galleries where an exhibit of 33 Currier and Ives prints were on view. Mrs. Anderson remained at Weld. Former United States Ambassador to Germany and Mrs. James W. Gerard arrived yesterday in New York aboard the Carinthia from Nassau where they made a late Winter visit. _ Former Assistant Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. F.Trubee^ Davison, who have been traveling in India have started their return trip and are expected to arrive In their home at Peacock Point, in Locust Valley, Long Island, next month. ■ _ Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Thaw will entertain at dinner this evening. Senora Agresti Honor Guest Senora Rossetti Agresti of Italy, who is visiting Miss Janet Richards during her stay, in Washington, was the honor guest at a small tea and reception yesterday afternoon at the 1 Wardman Park Hotel, given by a , group ot her friends in this city. Senora Agresti is the niece of the I celebrated Dante Gabriel Rossetti, poet and painter of the Victorian Era. She has been making an extensive lecturing tour of this country and has been entertained by her many friends in Boston. New York and Pittsburgh, as well as Washington. Mi's Miles was named for her grandmother, the late Mrs. William Belden Noble, and is a great granddaughter of the late Senator Yulee of Florida, who. as a delegate from the Territory of Florida, suc ceeded in having it admitted to State hood, returning to Washington as the first Senator from that State. Miss Miles also is the granddaughter of the late Gen. Nelson A. Miles, famous in military circles as well as among the most prominent residents of the District after his retirement from ac tive service. Mr. Wight Is a graduate of the Choate School and of Williams Col lege at Williamstown, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Platt of Garden City, Long Island, have an nounced the engagement of their daughter. Miss Catherine Platt, to Mr. Joseph C. Lingle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey S. Lingle of Washington. Miss Platt is a graduate of the Maderia School in Washington and of Vassar College. She made her debut In Washington several years ago. Her father, formerly of Poughkeepsie, represented the twenty-sixth congres sional district in the House of Repre sentatives for four terms and was then lor 10 years a member of the Federal Reserve Board. Mr. and Mrs. Blount left im mediately after the ceremony for a trip through Virginia. The wedding of Miss Ann Genevieve Wallis, daughter of Mrs. Mary Wallis of Takoma Park, D. C., and the late Dr. J. Frank Wallis, to Mr. William Stanley Gamble, son of Dr. and Mrs. Henry Stanley Gamble of Washing ton, took place this morning at 9 o'clock in the Church of the Na tivity. Rev. Stephen J. Hogan, pastor of the Lady of Sorrows Catholic. Church in Takoma Park, Md„ performed the ceremony before a small company of relatives and friends. The bride had as her only attendant her sister, Miss Kathryn Marie Wallis, and the be-t man was Mr. James C. Gamble, brother of the bridegroom. A navy blue dress suit of crepe with a navy straw hat, trimmed with white, navy shoes and white gloves completed the bride's costume. She also wore orchids and lilies of the valley. The maid of honor was in a saddle-color brown dress of crepe with matching accessories, and she had a corsage of Talisman roses. A breakfast for the members of the immediate families followed the ceremony at the home of the bride’s mother. FLOOD DELAYS EXAMS Civil Service Commission to Fix Amended Schedule. The flood has forced the Civil Serv ice Commission to revamp its exam ination schedule, and new dates now will be fixed wherever tests were de layed. Philip Herrmann, 75, prorietor of the furniture firm of House & Herr mann, died in Emergency Hospital yes terday after an illness of several weeks. A native of Baltimore. Mr. Herr man came here in 1885, and with George E. House founded the firm on Seventh street. Mr. Herrman was a director of the American Security & Trust Co. For merly he was president of the board of trustees of the Young Women's Christian. Association, treasurer of the Associated Charities and a treasurer of the Boys' Club of Washington. He also had taken an active interest in Neighborhood House and the Juvenile Protective Association. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at his late residence. 3100 Woodland drive.
