Funeral services for Thomas W. i Sidwell, principal of Sidwell’s Friends School, will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Friends Meeting House, 2111 Florida avenue. Burial will be In Rock Creek Cemetery. Mr. Sidwell died early yesterday at his home, 3901 Wisconsin avenue, after an illness of several weeks. He would have been 77 years old May 16. Friends School was founded by Mr. Sidwell 53 years ago as a co-ed ucational, non-sectarian institution, pledged to “stress simplicity, sincerity and friendliness In Its activities and relations." Active as director of the school until taken 111, Mr. Sidwell became the friend and adviser of hundreds of boys and girls who attended the Institution, among them the children of Pres idents. diplomats, members of the cab inet and Congress and leaders In the business and professional life of Washington. From a modest beginning at the old Friends Meeting House at 1811 I street, Friends School became one of the Capital's leading educational in stitutions, and was Incorporated in 1934. Mr. Sidwell had taken an active in terest in civic affairs since he came to Washington from his birthplace, Johnsville, Md., more than half a cen tury ago. He was a member of the Cosmos Club, the Rotary Club and the West End Citizens’ Association. Surviving are a brother, Dr. Frank Sidwell of Westminster, Md.; two nieces, Mrs. Frank J. Russell and Mrs. Nimrod P. Bennett, and two nephews, Dr. Edward Myers of Westminster and Dr. Jesse Myers of Baltimore. Mr. Sidwell’s wife, the former Frances M. Haldeman, who served as associate principal of her husband's school for some time, died about two years ago. DAWKINS DIES SUDDENLY Was Long-Time Resident and Active in Number of Organizations. Mrs. Lenora F. Dawkins, 67, for many years a resident of this city and active in a number of organizations here, died Friday of a sudden illness at her home, 1200 Orren street north east. She was the wife of W. H. Dawkins. Mrs. Dawkins was a member of Washington Centennial Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; was a past officer of Ruth Rebekah Lodge, Inde pendent Order of Odd Fellows; was a member of the Daughters of Amer ica and of Mount Vernon Place M. E. Church South. She is survived by her husband, two daughters. Miss Mary P. Dawkins and Mrs. Eula D. Lasley of this city; two brothers, D. Davis of this city and W. P. Davis of Staunton, Va., and a sister, Mrs. W. E. Winborne of Staun ton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Chambers funeral home, 1400 Chapin street. Rev. Dr. S. B. Washington school teachers and pupils will be afforded an opportu nity to participate in the eleventh na tional safety campaign contests spon sored by the Highway Education Board, according to an announcement yesterday. Eleven national organiza tions concerned with highway safety will collaborate in the campaign, which is now under way. A safety essay contest for pupils and a safety lesson contest for teachers will be features of the Nation-wide campaign. Hie essay contest is open to pupils in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Students must study traffic conditions in their own communities before writing their assays. The essays are not to exceed 500 words, and may be illustrated by an original drawing or illustration. Clos ing date of the contest is May 15.
