Funeral services were to be held at 2.30 p.m. today at the residence. Burial was to be in Cedar Hill Ceme tery. Mr. Davis was retired in November. 1927, for disability, after a service of nearly 20 years. His last duty was at No. 11 precinct. He was a member of the Association of Retired Policemen, of Hope Lodge of Masons and of the Modern Wood men of America. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Isabelle Edna Davis; two daughters. Father Hertz’s secular and theological studies were pursued in Larea and Burgos. Spain. He was ordained in the Order of Discalced Carmelites in 1897 and was detailed to missionary work in the Diocese of Quilon, India, | for 15 years. He spend a few years in the Car melite missions of Arizona and in 1916 was sent to this city to establish the Carmelite Community at Catholic University. He aided In superintending the building of the Carmelite monastery, ! 150 Rhode Island avenue northeast, | in 1920. During the last 15 years his i spiritual labors have been widespread. He had been confessor and spiritual director of many leaders of both men's and women's religious orders. Many of the poor and distressed visited the monastery to seek his guidance. In 1923 he founded the Mount Car mel House of Retreat for Women. He was the first priest in the diocese to introduce the devotion in honor of 8t. Theresa, "The Little Flower,” even be fore the young Carmelite nun had been beautified by the church. He was founder and first editor of Mount Carmel Magazine and was author of many devotional booklets and prayers. Among his books were "Holiness In the Cloister” and " Life of St. John of the Cross.” The body will lie in state in the Chapel of the Carmelite Monastery until late tonight. Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated In the chapel at 9 a.m. tomorrow by Rev. Father Dominic, O. C. D. Rev. Father Ber nard will be deacon and Rev. Brother Louts subdeacon. Buriai will be In St. Mary's Cemetery. REV. A. i. GUINEY RITES ANNOUNCED Requiem Mass Tomorrow to Be Followed by Interment in Jesuit Cemetery. Funeral services were announced to day for iRev. Aloyslus J. Guiney. 8. J., former parish priest in Maryland, who died of heart disease early yesterday in Georgetown University Hospital. He was 63. The office of the dead will be con ducted at 7:30 o’clock tonight at Georgetown, followed by requiem mass at 7:15 am. tomorrow in Dahlgren Chapel. Burial will be in the Jesuit cemetery of the college. Father Guiney was a native of Washington, having been reared in St. Aloysius’ parish. After being gradu ated from Gonzaga High School, he entered the Jesuit order August 10, 1893, and was ordained in 1907 by the late James Cardinal Gibbons of Baltimore. Most of Father Guiney’s parish work was done in Maryland, where he was well known. His principal pasts were at Bowie and Leonardtown, after the World War. Being a teacher, he later was transferred to Loyola High School in New York City and several years ago came to the Georgetown Preparatory School at Garrett Park, Md. After a year and a half there, heart trouble necessitated his retire ment. For the last year, he had re sided at Georgetown University. ARTHUR L FLINT. CANAL CHIEF. DIES Head of Local Office of Panama Commission Ex pires in New York. Arthur Lewi* Flint, 64, chief of the Washington office of the Panama Canal Commission, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday afternoon in New York. He left for New York Sun day and attended a meeting of the Panama Railroad Co. Board of Direc tors there yesterday morning. Mr. Flint, whose home was at Friendship Heights, Md., had been a member of the Panama Canal Com mission for some 30 years. A native of Eastbourne, England, he came to this country as a young man and lived for several years in Ohio before coming to the District to study law at the old Columbian College, now George Washington University. He received both his bachelor and master of laws degrees there. About the turn of the century Gen. Nelson A. Miles, the famous Indian fighter, persuaded Mr. Flint to accom pany him as private secretary on a trip around the world. Shortly after returning Mr. Flint joined the Pan ama Canal Commission. Mr. Flint was a member of the Ma sonic fraternity and was active In the Episcopal church. He was warden of St. Columba Episcopal Church and be longed to the Bethesda Lodge of Ma sons. Surviving him are his widow. Mrs. Florence Flint; a daughter, Miss Louise Flint, both of Friendship Heights; son Miles Flint of Loe Angeles, and a brother, Albert F. Flint of Boston. Each new act, each Clownish antic brought cries of pleasure to the sisters’ lips. Then came the cloudburst and panic. The big top sagged under its burden of rainwater. Down came a pole tall as a house. It crashed against Betty's head. Two hours later she died in Sibley Hospital. Nancy did not know last night that her sister had been killed, but they broke the news to her this morning. It took a long time to quiet her shak ing sobs. Mrs. Roudabush, too, was prostrate. Betty's father, Avis R. Roudabush, did not know yesterday that his chil dren had gone to the circus, it was understood. When news of the acci dent came, he drove here with Susan, 23, a daughter by another marriage. Coroner A. Magruder MacDonald indicated he would not hold an in quest. He inspected the tent yester day and said all equipment seemed to be new and m good condition. The pole which killed Betty had been * properly erected, he Mid. adding that, the accident seemed to have been caused by a storm-torn rope. CALVIN D. LEE DEAD Calvin D. Lee, 42, co-proprietor of the Hoy Toy Chinese Restaurant at 5522 Connecticut avenue, died Sunday after a long illness in the Pennsylvania University Hospital, Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held here at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the O. B. Jenkins funeral pariors, 809 Tenth atreet. The Federal Lodge of Masons, of which Mr. Lee was a member, will hold special Masonic rites. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
