TESTS TO INSURE
HIGH HEATING GAS Utilities Commission to Set Up Station to Tap Ana costia Line. Gas consumers in Washington toon Will be assured that they will receive full heating quality from the fuel manufactured in the East plant of the Washington Gas Light Co. This assurance is the result of a plan of the Public Utilities Commission to establish a continuous testing station and laboratory at 418 Tenth street southeast to tap the lines from the company’s plant located on the Ana costia River just east of the navy yard. Under the present system the manu factured gas of the Anacostia plant is strengthened with oil, mixed with natural gas and then mixed with the gas from the West plant in George town. Under this system the commis sion has had no check on the quality of the gas manufactured at Anacostia. The commission requires a minimum of 600 British thermal units. This is higher than the average heat capacity of manufactured gas, but much lower than the natural gas that is piped into Washington. The artificial gas aver ages about 400 B. T. U. before being enriched with oil. The natural gas averages about 1,100 B. T. U. The new testing station will be able to determine when, if ever, the quality of the gas from Anacostia falls below' the requirement. In fixing rates for the gas company the Public Utilities Commission has made allowances for the 600 B. T. U. requirement. Just when the new testing station will be opened has not yet been deter mined. but the commission expects the equipment to be installed within the next few weeks. -• DEMANDS JURY TRIAL Mrs. Maddock Is Charged With Occupying Disorderly House.
