4 REPORTED HELD Roanoke County Prosecutor Quizzes Quartet—Declines to Reveal identity. 2y the Associated Press. BECKLEY. W. Va., July 20.—Com monwealth’s Attorney E. H. Rlchard eon of Roanoke County, Va., today questioned four men seized at Rich wood, W. Va., last night by Virginia and West Virginia police. The prosecutor declined this morn ing to reveal what the four were being held for, but other sources said they were seized in connection with the slaying of a deputy sheriff in . Virginia. (C. E. "Big Boy” Simmons, Roanoke County deputy sheriff, was assassi nated near Roanoke early Friday by men who poured a hall of buckshot into his moving automobile. The as sassins’ car sped on.) • Richardson refused to make known at once the identity of the four men, but promised a statement later today. Nine Virginia State troopers and deputy sheriffs, together with West Virginia officers, formed the posse which seized the quartet at Richwood last night. GET INFORMATION. It was not known until today that they went to Richwood, W. Va.. where four men were taken for questioning last night. A hunt has been made for a small sedan which parked at a barbecue stand for some time before Simmons drove past in his machine. They were Involved in what Clark termed a kidnaping tri angle yesterday. Mrs. Clark and Hill were arrested yesterday near Clark’s automobile In front of a Chicago hotel, after Clark had charged Saturday that Hill kid naped his wife, Clark charged that Hill beat him. Hill Is attached to the Medical Di vision of the United States Army at Washington. He said they left Wash lngton together on a vacation and he was due back this month. Clark said he and his wife formerly con ducted a private dancing school In Silver Spring, Md„ a suburb of Wash ington. They reside In Washington. DBS MOINES, Iowa, July 20.—An nouncement by several leading Iowa Democrats and Republicans that they would not seek the poet, left an open fleld today for nominations for the two-year unexpired term of Senator Louis Murphy, killed in an automo bile accident last Thursday. Republican leaders, hopeful of vic tory next November, saw in the va cancy a chance to send two Repub lican Senators to Washington. Demo cratic chieftains expressed the belief they would retain the seat formerly held by Murphy. Former Oov. Dan Turner, Republican, said he was not seeking the nomination. Similarly, Ray Murphy of Ida Drove, Iowa, na tional American Legion commander, and N. O. Kraschel, Democratic nom inee for Governor, announced they declined requests to become candi dates for the Democratic nomination. Iowa Democrats will choose their nominee at the regular State conven tion of the party Thursday. Repub lican and Farmer-Labor parties al ready have held their conventions, but the party chairmen recalled delegates for a meeting July 25 to select sena torial nominees.
