BOSTON, December 21.—Seamen of
the fishing schooner Isabelle Parker
came into port yesterday resolved
never to play good Samaritan again
to herons blown out to sea.
Their faces brightly daubed with
Iodine to mark the cpota where an
over-affectionate bird had nipped
them with Its sharp, long bill, they
told how the exhausted heron flew
Into their sail Saturday night, was
picked up, fed and revived.
Every time he got a fish he took
a peck at the nearest sailor.
Half a day of that was enough
for the crew. Capt. Robertson Glffln
sought in vain to palm off the bird
on some unsuspecting stranger. He
had no luck.
A new automobile ferry service Is
planned at Nanking, China.

BERLIN, December 21.—Three mil
lion German homes have received
Christmas cards from Chancellor
Hitler—each card packed in a festively
decorated carton containing sausage,
canned herrings, coffee, cheese,
cookie*, sugar, canned milk and
canned vegetable*.
The cards are captioned "Oerman
Christmas 1926” and enclosed in each
Is a portrait of Hitler opposite the
greeting “Der Fuehrer thinks of you.”
The packages were delivered by
Hitler youths and maidens to small
pensioners and disabled war veterans,
Jobless on Winter relief rolls.

McGROARTY TO OFFER

LOS ANGELES, December 31.—
Representative McGroarty, Democrat,
of California, told a mass meeting
yesterday he would Introduce a bill
in Congress providing for $100 month
ly pensions to ell unemployed eittens
over 60 years of age.
“The Townsend old age revolving
pension proposal of 1200 a month
never will be the law,” he said.
“Once we understand that the bet
ter position we win be In to win old
age pensions.”
The McGroarty bill would not re
quire pension recipients to expend
each month's funds before the next
arrives; the Townsend plan would.
The Osarks comprise about 80,000
square miles In Missouri, Oklahoma
and Kansas.

17 Per Cent of Students at Prince

(A*).—Three hundred and eighty-nine
Princeton students, representing 17
per cent of the undergraduate body,
are being aided by univeisity scholar
ships, valued at >150,000, It was an
nounced yesterday by Prof. Robert K.
Root, dean of the faculty and chair
man of the University Committee on
Scholarships.
