Sanitary Manager Pursues

the chase.
Fugitive Cornered.
Wemple followed the cab to a point
bear Logan Circle, where the hold-up
man darted into a house. Wemple and
Carl stood guard until police arrived
and took the gunman into custody.
The captive identified himself as
Thomas Claude Barber. 23, of the 600
block of N street. Wemple's money was
recovered.

Guard. Wemple received the Meritori
ous Service Medal last December for
rescuing a crippled man and arousing

colored men. who robbed him of $6 95

A canceled $10,000 Federal Reserve
certificate of deposit that blew out of a
window of the Post Office Department
Building during a fire in April, 1935,
has turned up in Montreal, Canada,
according to Frank Wilson, chief of
the Secret Service.
The certificate is one of 28 with a
total face value of $300,000, but all of
them worthless by reason of cancella
tion, which were scattered on the
street, with other papers, as firemen
fought a blaze in offices occupied by
the General Accounting Office.
The Secret Service asked police of
the United States and Canada to be
on the lookout for the certificates, as
it was feared they might fall into the
hands of persons who would use them
for fraudulent purposes. The Certifi
cate found in Montreal is the twenty
sixth to be recovered.
Wilson was notified of the find by
Fernand Dufresgne, chief of police of
Montreal. The name of the person
from whom the certificate was taken
was not given and Wilson indicated
no charges will be made against any
one in connection with the case in
view of the circumstances attending
lass of the papers.
The Secret Service chief has asked
Montreal authorities to return the cer
tificate to the Treasury Department.

GROUP REAFFIRMS
RACING OPPOSITION
Chevy Chase Citizens’ Association
Again Opposes Red
Rider.
Opposition to legalized horse racing
and betting in the District and to the
"red rider" were reaffirmed last night
by the Chevy Chase Citizens' Associa
tion. meeting m E. V. Brown School.
While both measures were con
sidered and formally disapproved last
year, the association felt that "em
phasis must be placed on the stand
of the organization" since such legis
lature would be "detrimental to the
progress and well being of the Dis
trict.” Copies of the resolutions will
be sent to the House and Senate Dis
trict Committees.
The association decided to seek im
mediate construction of a bus terminal
for the Chevy Chase area because of
"increasing demand” for such struc
ture.
