NEW YORK. February 24—Bond
prices were marked down along a
rather broad front today as liquidation j
carried over from the preceding ses
sion.
Best-grade corporation issues and ;
United States Treasury Loans partici
pated in the retreat, and some were I
back around 1937 lows after a recent
rally.
Santa Fe General 4s. in the portfo
lios of many savings banks and other
institutions fell more than a point.
Losses of fractions were registered in
American Telephone 3‘4s, Bethlehem
Steel 3*4s, Pacific Telephone 3Us and
Pure Oil 4'4s.
Convertibles and other issues with a
sppeculative appeal were mostly lower
in sympathy with stocks.

Another increase in internal revenue
collections during January, the Treas
ury said today, lifted receipts for the
first seven months of this fiscal year
$290,845,653 above the same period
last year.
January collections of $207,483,011
were $23,717,973 over the same 1936
month. These receipts brought Gov
ernment income for the seven-month
period to $2,071,883,792.
The gain was achieved despite in
validation of taxes under the agricul
tural adjustment act, which accounted
for $71,271,790 of revenue in the 1935-6
period.
Income tax receipts paced tbe rev
enue climb, rising $147,899,320 during
the seven-month period to $740,287,
713. Of the total. $416,873,795 was

FOREIGN MARKETS.
LONDON February 24 OF.—Oil stocks
showed strength today following the Mexi
can Eagle Oil Co.'s statement that the
creation of a new Mexican government oil
company would not affect British interests.
Giit-edged securities sold higher and in
dustrials were firm, especially steels, tobac
cos and electrical issues. Mining shares
were active and strong as buyers again
sought the base metal issues. Trans
Atlantic stocks were easier in sympathy
with tree'erday s weakness in New York.

advances on wire and wire products
are reported impending with the fin
ished steel market In an unusually
buoyant position.
Talk of the general price advance
for the second quarter is becoming
more widespread as expectations of a
wage Increase become more general.
Demand is unusually strong. Pro
ducers are shipping actively against
all orders but new business is develop
ing in such volume as to make it im
possible for them to materially cut
down their backlogs. Shipments now
are extended far into the future de
spite the fact operations are at the
highest level In years.
