March 1—American Telephone Ac Telegraph Co. in Its an nual report showed 1936 net Income for the system of $184,700,000, or $9.89 a share, compared with $132,900,000, or $7.12 a share. In 1935. An increase In telephones in use, reductions In rates, an upturn In aver age daily telephone conversations and an increase in taxes in 1936 also were disclosed in the pamphlet report. The statement differed from past practice in excluding Southern New England Telephone Co. and the Cin cinnati & Suburban Bell Telephone Co., which are non-controlled. and in cluding certain controlled telephone companies not heretofore Included. In 1936 the number of telephones increased 881.000, compared with an increase of 456.000 in 1935. There were 14.453.C00 Bell telephones in serv ice at the end of 1936. At the close of the year the system had regained about two-thirds of the telephones loet during the depression. General Printing Ink. General Printing Ink Corp reported for 1936 net income after undistributed profits tax of $1,177,803, equal after preferred dividends to $5.28 a share on 183,990 common shares. This com pares with $924,059. or $3 88, in 1935. Vick Chemical. Vick Chemical reported for the quarter ended December 31 consoli dated net profit of $1,126,623, equal to $1 61 a share, compared with $599,933. or 85 cents a share, in the like 1935 quarter.
