“WOMAN IN RED” ASKS TO RETURN Dillinger Death Lure Seeks Re-Entry From Exile in Rumania. By thl Associated Press. CHICAGO, March 11.—"The wom en in red.” who lured Bandit John Dilltnger to his death, pleaded today from her exile In Rumania for re fntry to the United States. Writing from the Balkan town of Timisoara, where she is known as Dona Anna Cumpanasi, Mrs. Anna Sage asked a Chicago attorney to take the necessary legal steps to expedite ber return. The 45-year-old woman wrote she did not believe the United Btates Government, which banished ber 10 months ago, would oppose her petition for re-entry’. ttewarci Claims to He rued. Mrs. Sage's expulsion was based on her conviction on charges of operating disorderly bouses in Indiana. Deported in April, 1936. Mrs. Sage's deportation in April, 1936, followed her unsuccessful battle In the Federal courts. Mrs. Sage ■ought dismissal of the deportation order on grounds she had fulfilled an agreement when, wearing a dress of brilliant hue, she put Dillinger on the ■pot. She contended Melvin Purvis, for merly in charge of the Department of Justice Chicago office, promised dismissal of deportation proceedings In return for her assistance. During the course of Mrs. Sage's court battle Purvis issued a statement In which he said that "as part of her reward” she should be allowed to remain in the United States. Bruere. former president of the As sociation of Bank Women, died here yesterday. A native of St. Louis, she entered the banking business after serving *'ith the Association for the Improv ing of the Condition of the Poor and the Charity Organization Society. At the time of her death she was as •istant secretary in charge of the women's department of the Central Hanover Bank & Trust Co. Besides two brothers and three sis ters in New York, she is survived by another brother, Dr. Gustave E. Bruere of Portland, Oreg., and a sister, Mrs. Walter L. Whittlesey of Princeton, H J. (Signed) A Slot Machine Ouy.” Sheriff George A. Luts., Jr., re marked: “Somebody is kidding them." 17 CHILDREN HURT School Bus Hit by Freight Train in Carolina. BRYSON CITY, N. C., March 11 Of).—Seventeen Bryson City school children suffered minor cuts and bruises yesterday when a school bus was hit by a freight train at a cross ing here. Wayne Blue, driver of the bus, said he slowed down before at tempting to cross, but did not see or hear the train. The bus was in the eenter of the crossing when the train, moving slowly, struck it. The bus did not turn over. Malaya faces many strikes. TURKEY’S $2,700 MEAL CHICAGO, March 11 OP).—Etta Reed, blond radio singer, Is asking reimbursement for the $2,700 break* fast she said a turkey had at her expense. She filed suit yesterday In Circuit Court for $3;000 against Gust Terzake, owner of a turkey coop, alleging that when she went to purchase her last Christmas dinner one of his turkeys gobbled her $2,700 diamond clasp.
