ZINC PRICES HOLD FIRM DURING WEEK Tight Supply Situation Force* Producer* to Allocate Metal on Piecemeal Basis. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, July 24.—Zinc held firm last week, with supplies tight, and producers allocating metal on a piece meal basis. Demands were In ex cess of production and reports were that buyers had taken imported metal over the domestic price. Belgian rinc was offered at 5.45 to 5.50 cents c. i. f. Atlantic and Gulf ports, equivalent to about 7 20 to 7.25 cents, duty paid. Buying activity in lead held up to a substantial total, with the price holding unchanged All lpading lines of consumption were represented in the week's buying, but the battery and cable Industries were especially promi nent. Copppr prices registered unimpor tant changes. There was a noticeable Improvement in the undertone, how ever. in both the domestic and foreign markets. A relative scarcity of spot supplies bolstered sentiment, while abroad prices improved mod erately on a better demand, encour aged partly by the cheering tenor of American industrial news. Domestic copper held unchanged at. 14 cents a pound, delivered valley. Tin moved irregularly, advancing ** cent, then reacting and finishing the week ■14 cents a pound lower. The j domestic market was sensitive to fev- 1 erish fluctuations at London, where i therp was active discussion on a scheme to prevent wide swings in price. BALTIMORE. Md., July 24 —The' live poultry market remained mostly steady during the earlier part of the week under fair demand and moderate receipts, but toward the close of the period there was an increase on large young stock, » hich is about 1 cent per pound higher. Some fowl showed a corresponding decrease. The largest change was a 2-cent increase on roosters. Present quota tions on broilers are 22a24 for Rocks weighing 3'-2 pounds and over, 21a23 for 2\ to 3 pound weights and 20a21 for smaller stock. Mixed colors are steady at 20a22 and poor, thin stork is little wanted at 15a 16. Leghorns are selling 20 for 2'2 to 2*3 pound birds, 18a 19 for those weighing 1\ to 2 and 17 for smaller. In fowl, Rocks are lower at 20a22. mixed colors steady at I8a20 and Leghorns slightly lower at 15al7. Roasters are higher at 12al4 and young Pekin ducks unchanged at 12al4. F.gg Prices Steady. Eggs are practically steady, the only change being a slight Increase on me dium sized hennery whites. Receipts continue moderate. Present prices are 21a22 dozen for current receipts, 25a 26 for large hennery whites and 22a 24 for medium. Native and nearby garden truck receipts continue to increase with most items showing declines from last week's quotations. A few are slightly higher, however. Tomatoes are considerably lower at 60a75 half-bushel for ripe ungraded stock and 40a50 for less desirable quality. Nearby cantaloupes are also lower at 50a60 half-bushel, for the best and 25a 40 for poorer quality. Nearby peaches are selling 30a50 half-bushel, only a slight decline from last week. Beans are lower at 50a90 bushel for the green round stringless variety. Beets are lower at 1 50a2.00 per 100 bunches, carrots, lower at 2 50a4.00 per 100 bunches, sugar and field corn lower at 15a22 dozen for the former and 8al0 for the latter, cucumbers slightly higher at 25a35 half-bushel, eggplants about steady at 1.25 half bushel. peppers lower at 35a40 half bushel, with a few bringing higher prices, and squash higher at 35a50 for small stock. Live Stock Market. Cottle—175. Compared with Friday last week, steers and she stock mostly 50 higher; some steers up more. Steers, mostly medium and good grass fat, 11 00al3.00; plain quality kinds mostly 10.00: downward to 8.00; plain and medium heifers. 6 50a9.65. Good cows. 7 00a8 00: some on heifer order to 8 50: plain and medium fat cows, 550a6.50; low cutters and cutters, 4 00a5.25, shelly kinds, under 4 00. Bulls 25 or more higher: plain and medium. 5.50a7.00: stocker steers, 6 50a900, mostly 400-700 pounds. Calves—50. Vealers 50 higher than close last week. Good from Wednes day onward. 9 50a 10.00; practical top for week, 10.00; plain and medium, 7.00a9 00. Hogs—50. Meager supply weights from 210 pounds. Down 10 higher than yesterday; butchers over 220 pounds, and packing sows nominal; market mostly 30a50 higher than week ago; packing sows up 15. Good and choice, 170-210 pounds, 13.35al3.55; top, 13.55: 140-160 pounds, 13.10a 13.35; 120-140 pounds. 12.35al2 85. Hogs from doubhful areas not repre sented in above prices. Sheep—50. Spring lambs mostly 50a75 higher than week ago; plain throwouts dull and little change. Good and choice, 70-80 pounds, ewes and wethers, mostly 10.25al0.75; rail un loads and few best trucked-in. 11.00a 11.25, late in week. Bucks 1.00 under comparable ewes and wethers; plain and medium, 7.50a9 50, mostly. Fat slaughter ewes 50 higher for the week, from 3.50a4 50; old thin sheep 2 00 or less. Grain Market. Closing prices were: Wheat, No. 2, red. Winter, garlicky, spot, domestic, 1.195*; July delivery. 1.195*. Corn. No. 2, yellow, domestic. 1.20; Western billing at a premium over this price.
