S' trial Dispatch to The Star NEW YORK. July 24 —Greater ac tivity and better earnings for flour milling and allied companies are in dicated by the unusually large wheat harvest expected this year, it Is stated in Poor's Industry and Investment Surveys. Despite extensive black rust damage to the Spring crop, domestic wheat growers are expected to harvest, approximately 800,000,000 bushels, as compered with 626,000,000 bushels in 1936. "Inasmuch as between 38 per cent and 42 per cent of a bakers' Income goes for ingredients, increased flour costs during the last year have re stricted earnings, as brelld and cracker prices have proven quite Inflexible." states the analysis. "Flour costs In May were somew-hat lower than at the beginning of the year; but they have risen again in recent weeks. "The April mark-up of 1 cent per loaf in bread prices should benefit most bread bakers in metropolitan cities—one barrel of flour makes ap proximately 240 loaves of bread. Cracker bakers, on the other hand, must expand their sales of sweet goods (•where selling prices are almost back to the 1926 level) if earnings are to be maintained. Cake and pastry makers, fundamentally, are able to raise prices as purchasing power Im proves." INSURANCE STOCKS NEW YORK. July *24 «Λ»ι.—New York Security Dealers' Association: Bid. Asked.
