H EX-SEAMAN, DIES Native of Maryland Served on Steamer Macalester for 40 Years. Capt. John Henry Turner, 74, former captain of the old steamer Charles Macalester and a familiar figure on the Potomac for more than - half a century, died yesterday at his home. 829 Third street north east. He had been ill about six months. He had served on board the old steamer for more than 40 years, the last 28 as captain. He re tired several years ago when the boat was Capt. Turner. withdrawn from service. Capt. Turner began his career on the water in his early 'teens on a small fishing schooner. Later he served two years as an assistant light house keeper, prior to beginning work for the Mount Vernon & Marshall Hall Steamboat Co., which operated the Macalester. In her last few years of service the Macalester made only oc casional runs. In 1932 Capt. Turner was tempo rarily incapacitated with a broken leg, suffered when struck by an au fcomobile operated by * hit-and-run driver only a short distance from the spot where he had suffered a similar injury two years before. The second leg fracture was only a few inches from where his leg was broken the first time. Two of his sons, William H. and George D. Turner, have followed .in his footsteps on the water, the last named now being a quartermaster for the. Norfolk & Washington Steamboat Co. Capt. Turner leaves two other sons, Benjamin and Richard Turner, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ruth Raffo and Mrs. Alice Dorsey, all of Washington, and 13 grandchildren. He also is survived by several brothers and sisters of St. Marys County. Md., where he w'as bom. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Aloysius Catho lic Church. Burial will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery. I. L. HINES IS FOUND DEAD IN HOTEL ROOM J. L. Hines, 47, a well-known auto mobile salesman here for more than 15 years, was found dead yesterday in his hotel room at Asheville, N. C„ where he had gone on his vacation. According t,o friends, Mr. Hines left Washington by boat Monday to go to Norfolk, Va., and from there to Ashe ville by motor. They said death ap parently was caused by heart attack. For the last 10 years Mr. Hines had been connected with the Trew Motor Co. He lived at 1317 Rhode Island avenue. District Native Was 67. Funeral Services Sched uled Tomorrow. Dr. Edwin S. Lothrop. 67, prominent homeopathic physician, died yesterday at his home, 705 East Capitol street, after a long illness. A native of this city, Dr. Lothrop was the son of the late Daniel W. Lothrop, for many years em ployed at the Treasury Depart ment, and the late Mrs. Jennie R. Nimo Loth rop. He received his early educa tion in public schools here and in 1893 was Dr. Lothrop. R r a d u a t e d in medicine from Howard University. Subsequently he took a post-graduate course at the Southern Homeopathic Medical Col lege of Baltimore and served as an interne in the aNtional Homeopathic Hospital here. Dr. Lothrop for a number of years was associated with Dr. Richard Kingsman until the latter's death in I 1920. Dr. Lothrop had continued in active practice here until becoming ill last April. He was a member of the Washington Homeopathic Medical Society and the Clinical Club. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Seitr. lothrop, whom he married in October, 1896; two daughters, Miss Blanche E. Lothrop, this city, and 1 Mrs. Frank P. Harbin, Baltimore, and i two sisters, Mrs. Alice L. Thompson and Mrs. Etta Rhamstine, both of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Peter's , Catholic Church, following brief serv- • Ices at the residence. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
