The ape man turned to Gonlala. "Call one of the warriors and see what it's about. We'll wait in the next loom.-’ Then he led the others into an adjoining chamber. Gonfala struck thrice upon a drum to summon the captain of the warriors, then drew the bolt on the corridor door. An Amazon entered and £ bowed low. "What is all this?" Gonfala demanded; “why do you seek Mafka at this hour?” The war rior replied in trembling voice. 'The Zuli are coming, o queen, coming to make war upon us. They sent a alave to demand the return of their great emerald. We want Mafka to bless us with his mighty power so that we may drive them away. We must make haste, for the Zuli are at the gates!" | UNITED FEATURE SYNDICATE Inc (J-T6 Tarzan frowned when he overheard the fateful announcement. Now indeed the situation was fraught with overwhelming peril. How could they elude the insistent Kaji warriors? Even if they did succeed, how could they pass the fierce Zuli at the gates of the city? FLINT. pUT on your old gray (matter) bon net! There Is some deep think ing to do. A very old and very skilled wood carver was commissioned to carve a figure from a block of Wood 3 feet long, 1 foot wide and 1 foot thick. The wood was of a valuable nature and the task would be one requiring great care. Payment was to be made to the carver on the basis of number of cubic Inches removed from the block in the carving process. The carver started work and turned out a master piece. When it was done the carver k of cubic Inches removed when meas ured by weight because the customer said the wood might weigh differently at the heart and on the outside. The carven gave the matter thought and found a new way to determine the amount of wood removed. What can you think of? (See Answer on Page C-7.) Jolly Polly A Little Chat on Etiquette. By JOS. J.
