. 3DWING.G. H.A.F., Barksdale Field Outfit Will Receive Two Famous Trophies. A double triumph for the 3d Wing Of the General Headquarters Air . Force will be celebrated today at its base, Barksdale Field. La, where Maj. Gen. Frank M. Andrews, G. H. Q., Air Force commander, will present two famous trophies for achievement during the last year. Officers and enlisted men Of the 3d Attack Group will receive the Colombian Troph for safety in the ■ir during the past fiscal year. This . will be the second time the group has received the trophy, presented to the United States in 1935 by the Republic of Colombia to cement friend ship between the republics and ex press comradeship between flyers of the two nations. It is awarded an nually to the G. H. Q. Air Force group with the lowest percentage of aircraft accidents per 1,000 hours of flying time. The prize-winning group, composed of three tactical squadrons and a • service squadron, flew more than 33,000 miles without killing or seri ously injuring a man. The group is assigned to the 3d Wing, commanded by Brig. Gen. Frederick L. Martin, who, with Col. Robert E. M. Goolrick, field commander, has been commended by the War Department for the record. Luke Trophy Awarded. The Luke Trophy, for proficiency in aerial machine gunnery, will be pre sented to the 77th Pursuit Suadron, 20th Pursuit Group, also of the 3d Wing. The 77th. now commanded by Maj. Milo N. Clark, was led by Maj. Carlton F. Bond during eight months of the competitive period for which » the trophy was awarded. Gunners of the 77th scored 17,664 hits out of a possible 30,400, for an average of 58.1 per cent, to win the trophy. Sixteen pilots participated and all firing was done from Boeing P-26A airplanes, in which the guns are fixed and the pilot aims by ma neuvering the airplane. Leading scores were first by Second Lt. C. N. Piper, Air Reserve, 1.402; First Lt. P. R, Go wen, Air Corps, 1,351, and Maj. Bond, 1,279. This is the second successive year that a squadron of the 20th Pursuit « Corps, assigned to the 3d Wing ai Barksdale Field, has won the Luke Trophy. It was taken last year by the 79th Pursuit Squadron. The 20th Pursuit Group has been commanded until recently by Lt. Col. Ross G Hoyt, formerly stationed here in the office of the Chief of the Air Corps Col. Ira G. Rader is present group commander. Trophy Named for Luke. The Luke Trophy is awarded annu ally by the Arizona Department of the . American Legion to commemorate the heroism of Lt. Frank Luke, World War ace and native of Phoenix. Luke rose to meteoric fame, bringing down , 18 enemy aircraft before he was forced down behind the enemy lines and died fighting off a battalion of German infantry with his pistol. He was known as the “Balloon Buster” be cause of his deadly accuracy against the heavily defended German sausage balloons. Gen. Andrews flew to Barksdale Field from his headquarters at Lang . ley Field to present the trophies before more than 1,000 officers and men of the 3d Wing. An air review of the wing will follow the ceremony. JUVENILE COURT JUDGE TO SPEAK . Tribunals Need to “Form" In stead of “Pass" Judgment, r Jurist Believes. Society needs juvenile courts in which Judgment is “formed” regarding adolescent offenders, not where judg ment is “passed” upon them, according to Judge Gustav Schramm of Alle gheny County Juvenile Court, Pitts burgh, who will be the eighth speaker in the crime clinic being conducted ~ by the Institute of Criminal Science. The Jurist, who will speak Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in the Wardman Park Theater, also will be the speaker at a luncheon meeting that afternoon at the Y. W. C. A. The luncheon is ■ponaored by the Corrections Commit tee of the Council of Social Agencies, In co-operation with the institute. Agencies which will attend the luncheon and evening lecture include the Board of Directors of the Wash ington Criminal Justice Association, the Board of Directors of the Bureau of Rehabilitation, the Youth Welfare Committee of the Junior Board of Commerce, the Child Welfare Com mittee of the League of Women Voters, and the Law and Order Committee of the Board of Trade. Judge Schramm will discuss all phases of the problem of court han dling of juvenile cases. D. C. Importance of appraisal data as a factor in controlling realty develop ment and stabilizing realty values was emphasized by speakers appearing yesterday before the concluding ses sion of the National Appraisal Forum. Those addressing the group of more than 500 delegates to the forum were Mordecai Ezekiel, economic adviser to the Secretary of Agriculture, who directed his talk to the stabilization problem, while Walter S. Schmidt, former president of the National Association of Real Estate Boards, discussed development problems. Donald H. McNeal, technical direc tor for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, was chairman of the session, while Frederick M. Babcock presided over a business meeting. The conference, a two-day affair, was sponsored jointly by three Gov ernment agencies and three private associations. Those participating were the Federal Housing Administration, Home Loan Bank Board and Farm Credit Administration, the Society of Residential Appraisers, National As sociation of Housing Officials, and the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. PRESIDENT ACCEPTS Roosevelt Takes Post of Group for Jew-Christlan Round Table. The National Conference of Jews and Christians announced yesterday Presi dent Roosevelt had accepted the hon orary chairmanship of a National committee to organize round-table talks among Catholics, Jews and Pro testants. The conferences, held in each com munity during a three-months' period, beginning November 22, are intended to promote “amity and understanding" among the various religious groups.
