fjpHOUSANDS of children in Washington are depending upon you for happiness this Christmas. As the joyful season approaches, they are dreaming of the good things you will bring them, dreaming of stockings you will fill, dreaming of new toys to play with, things^to eat, warm clothes to wear—dream ing of your visit and hoping that you will not forget them. They will write’to you of their wants, they will mention you in their prayers, and with full childish faith they will wait for your coming. Children in hospitals, children in orphanages and charitable institutions, children of the needy and destitute are waiting for you. MUST NOT FAIL THEM! Your task is a big one, for those who need you are many. So in order to help you reach them all, The Star, aided by the Warner Bros. Theaters and the National Broadcasting Company, has again joined forces with the Metropolitan Police, the Parent-Teachers Association, and Federal Employes in all branches of the Govern ment here in a city-wide campaign to assure Christmas happiness for all Washington. WARNER BROS. WASHINGTON THEATERS will hold special matinee performances at 14 downtown and neighborhood houses on Saturday, December 18, to which a new toy or a new article of clothing for nee*dy children will admit you. If you cannot attend send your contribution to any one of the following theaters: \ Earle, Metropolitan, Tivoli, Ambassador, Savoy, Avalon, Colony, York, Penn, Apollo, Home, Uptown, Sheridan and Calvert. / * THE PARENT TEACHERS ASSOCIATION is combing the city in co-operation with the police department to list the needy families who will receive food and gifts. To mothers and teachers of the District goes the colossal task of sorting, wrapping and classifyng the thousands of presents contributed by the people of Washington so that the poor may not be forgotten on the holiday. i^B_I _ _ __ _ _ METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT will open Christmas food headquarters at the National Guard Armory (6th and Penna. Ave.). Non-perishable food and food baskets will be received there and at all police precincts for delivery to needy families in connection with the 17th annual police party, and in co-operation with The Star, Warner Bros., N. B. C. toy matinees. FEDERAL EMPLOYES OF WASHINGTON are collecting donations of food, clothes, toys and cash for distribution through The Star’s campaign to the poor of their adopted city under the direction of a Federal Co-ordinator and with the full approval and co-operation of members of President Roosevelt’s cabinet. ! 1 * . THE NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMPANY has arranged an elaborate series of special radio programs on both WRC and WMAL featuring prominent stars of the stage, screen and air, the first to go on from 10:30 to 11:00 tomorrow night.
