CADET BATTALIONS
TO VIE TOMORROW
13 Units to Participate in
Competitive Drill at
Central High.
Thirteen cadet battalions from the
white senior high schools will hold
their annual battalion competitive drill
tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. in the Central
High School Stadium.
The contest will be marked by ap
pearance of a battalion from the Ana
costia Junior-Senior High School,
which will make its debut in cadet
competition. The Anacostia unit forms
the nucleus of what will eventually
be the 7th Cadet Regiment.
According to Col. Wallace M.
Craigie, professor of military science
and tactics for the white high schools,
the battalions will march on to the
field at 15-minute intervals and parade
before the three judges, MaJ. Alex
ander R. Bolling, Capt. James Regan,
jr., and First Lt. Forrest Caraway, all
U. S. Army Infantry officers.
Awards, consisting of a gold medal
for the major commanding the win
ning unit and a silk flag and a silver
cup for the winning battalion, will be
presented by Assistant Supt. of Schools
Harvey A. Smith at the close of the
regimental and band competition
April 7.
The order in which the schools will
go on Is Central, McKinley, Roosevelt,
Woodrow Wilson, Eastern, Anacostia
and Western. Recorder for the judges
will be Master Sergt. W. H. Leemaster,
U. S. Infantry.

INSTITUTE AT CAMP
An outdoors activity institute will
be held at Rockwood Manor, near
Potomac, Md., April 6 for members
of Girl Scout councils and commit
tees from region 3.
First adult gathering of its kind
at the Girl Scout camp, the institute
will have representation from Har
risburg. Pa.; Baltimore, Indian Head,
Prince Georges County, Annapolis and
Westminster, Md., and Richmond,
Norfolk and Roanoke, Va.
