NEW YORK, April 18.—United
States Government issues remained in
the bond market spotlight today with
further gains ranging to more than a
point.
Not quite as buoyont as on Saturday,
Federate nevertheless dominated the
entire domestic list which showed a
liberal sprinkling of gains in the final
hour.
With trading sentiment still re
sponsive to the credit expansion pro
posals contained i* President Roose
velt's recovery message last Thurs
day, demand for the general run of
Governments was broad enough to
absorb profit selling and carry the
list to new highs for the pair upward
movement since last Thursday. A rise
of 1.5 points in Federal Farm Mort
gage 234s was regarded as an adjust
ment to a sharp upturn in Treasuries
in recent sessions. Two or three of
the Treasuries turned reactionary in j
the late trading, but losses were nar
row.
Despite some laggard performers
corporate loans improved over a
broad^Xront. Leading gainers includ
ed obligations of Baltimore & Ohio. I
Chicago & Western Indiana. Santa j
Fe. Bethlehem Steel. Great Northern, j
Lehigh Valley, Louisville & Nashville
and Studebaker.

DECLINE IN CASH FARM
INCOME IS PREDICTED
By the Asftciated Press.
The Bureau of Agricultural Eco
nomics predicted that the national
cash farm income during the first half
of 1938 would be about S3,000,000.000,
or about $503,000,000 less than during
the same period last year.
The prediction was based on a con
tinued weakness in the domestic de
mand and lower prices for farm prod
ucts and “increased evidence of re
cession in business activity in foreign
»oun tries which are markets for
American farm products.

—Sentiment toward currenly quoted prices
on greasy shorn domestic wools was mildly
optimistic among members of the Boston
trade today. Quotations have not shown
any market changes over the week end.
Some inquiries were being received from
manufacturers and topmakers. but actual
business was very moderate. All branches
of the wool trade were keeping a very
close watch for any sign of increased ac
tivity In the market for goods.

from dealers on sales of radio sets
during March show that 18 per cent
tower unit* were sold in the country
at large, than during the same period
of 1937, according to the Radio Re
tailing monthly business barometer,
which stands at 82, compared with a
year ago taken as 100. In many cities,
however, particularly those of smaller
size, dealers were able to produce in
creases in both unit and dollar sales
by staging special sales or taking ad
vantage of special offerings from
manufacturers.
Deports from the Par Western and
Southern States, although incomplete,
indicate that sales there were well
above the national average, and in
borne districts above the March, 1937,
unit sales. Similarly, reports from
Pennsylvania, Iowa, the New England
States, compared in many cases fa
vorably with last year.
Declines were largest in industrial
towns and cities or in districts where
Government spending has been
stopped or drastically reduced. In
suburban areas affected by big-city
bargain sales, dealers appear divided
into two classes: The ones who cleared
their stocks through bargain sales and
the ones who sat tight.
Inventories are lower than a year
ago, with fewer sets in dealer stocks
[or the country at large.

The domestic wheat markets have
reached that season of the year when
their dominant interest Is in reports
of wheat crop prospects, both In the
United States and abroad.
Reports on changing crop conditions
kept grain prices bobbing up and down
last week. With the largest winter
wheat crop since 1931 indicated on the
basis of conditions April 1, the mar
kets sought to obtain accurate in
formation on the extent cf damage
caused the crop in Southeastern Kan
sas, Texas and Oklahoma by cold
weather week before last.
The Bureau of Agricultural Eco
nomics reported that ’ prospects for
winter wheat in other countries have
been fairly well maintained, with little
winter-killing apparent. Recent re
ports indicate some damage from dry
weather, however, in Northern Italy,
the lower Danubian countries and
parts of North Africa.
Domestic cash wheat markets fluc
tuated with futures and closed barely
steady compared with a week ago, the
bureau said. Marketings of winter
wheat dropped off somewhat as a re
sult of inclement weather and the pre
Easter holiday. Receipts at principal
winter wheat markets totaled 710 cars,
compared with 934 for the previous
week, the bureau said.
Marketings of spring wheat re
mained relatively small, with 155 cars
received at Minneapolis and 111 cars at
Duluth. However, 49 care of the Min
neapolis receipts were winter wheat
and 40 cars durum. The bureau said
that, while demand for spring wheat
was not aggressive, millers were fairly
active buyers and current offerings
were readily taken.
Intermountain and Pacific Coast
markets shewed little change from
the previous week. The bureau said
5,000 tons of wheat were reported sold
for export to Ireland and Baltic coun
tries.
