AIRLINES AGAIN TAKE
PERFECT SAFETY AWARD
Pennsylvania - Central Receives
Commendation on Marking
It's 11th Anniversary.
For the second consecutive year
Pennsylvania-Central • Airlines has
been awarded the National Safety |
Council’s certificate of special com
mendation for its perfect safety rec
ord, it was announced today.
“Presented in recognition of Penn
sylvanla.-Central Airlines’ contribu
tion to safe air transportation, the
award stands as further tribute to an
airline which has unequaled safety
record of never having had either a
passenger or a passenger crew fatal
ity," it was announced.
The award came as something of a
birthday gift to the airline, which will
celebrate Its eleventh anniversary of
continuous operation April 26. The
airline, which operates from Washing
ton to Milwaukee by way of Pitts
burgh, Cleveland and Detroit, recently
opened service from Washington to
Norfolk, Washington to Buffalo and
Baltimore to Pittsburgh.
C. Bedell Monro, president of the
airline, announced today that Penn
sylvania-Central has carried more
than 275,000 passengers, flown more
than 51,629.977 passenger miles and
carrier 2,230,123 pounds of mail and
1,004,895 pounds of express. It ranks
as one of the oldest airlines in the
country In point of continuous service.

Of 48,011 new cars sold in South
Africa last year, 39,591 came from
the United States, 5,475 from Great
Britain and 2,945 from other coun
tries.

partments present included Maj. Ernest
W. Brown, police superintendent, and
Deputy Fire Chief A. O. Buscher.

and Sullivan light opera presentations

Gilbert and Sullivan Association, It

“Fans” may submit old souvenir
programs, playbills, etc., of an early

tion headquarters at the Park Central
Hotel, New York, before June 1 in
competition for a set of Gilbert and
Sullivan volumes.
This includes "The Gilbert and Sul
livan Operas,” a concordance by Fred
erick J. Halton: “How to Present the
Gilbert and Sullivan Operas,” by Al
bert O. Bassuk, and "The Merry Oen
tlemen of Japan,” by H. W. Reiter and
Shepard Chartock.
