Horse Show Is Held at Quantico Parties Are Given For Visitors To Event. UANT1CO, Va., April 23.—The Quantico Horse Show this w-eek end is the occasion of many delightful parties, among them the buffet supper and dance at the Officers’ Mess this eve ning. The commanding general and Mrs. James C. Breckinridge were hosts at the supper party this evening, having among their guests Maj. and Mrs. Richard Jeschke of Washington. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Louis W. Whaley have with them for the horse show the Major General Commandant and Mrs. Thomas Holcomb and their son, Mr. Frank Holcomb of Washington. Col. Edward A. Ostermann will en tertain at breakfast before the morn ing events of the show tomorrow. * Lt. Col. and Mrs. Alfred H. Noble were hosts at a cocktail party at their quarters this evening, later taking their guests to the supper at the club. Brig. Gen. and Mrs. Frederick L. Bradman had as their guests this eve ning Col. and Mrs. Russell Putnam, Miss Mary Putnam, Maj. and Mrs. Elmer Hail and Maj.- and Mrs. J. W. Beckett of Washington. Maj. Candler A. Wilkinson, U. S. A. and Mrs. Wilkinson were hosts at a luncheon at their quarters during the noon interlude of the horse show, hav ing among their guests the judges of the show and the visiting participants. Hines has announced the engagement of her daughter, Rita Berkeley Hines, to Lt. Tom Charles Loomis, U. S. M. C., of this command. The announcement was made at a tea Thursday afternoon. Miss Hines is a granddaughter of the late Mr. Joseph H. Montague of Montague, N. C. Lt. Loomis is the son of Mrs. E. J. Loomis of Las Cruces, N. Mex„ and was graduated from the University of New Mexico with the class of 1936. The wedding date will be announced later. Capt. and Mrs. Harold C. DR. AND MRS FELIPE A. MARTINEZ were hosts at a cocktail party last evening, when they invited more than 200 of their friends to their home in Greenwich Forest to meet Mrs. Martinez's father and 1 j mother. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kurdle of Baltimore. . | The party was one of the largest affairs to be held In the community | | for many months and the guests were representatives of diplomatic circles in . Washington and also many of their friends among the members of the I medical profession. Among the guests who were present at the party were the Ambassador of Mexico and Senora de Castillo Najera and their daughter, Senorita Erma 1 Castillo Najera. Other guests who attended the party were the Ambassador of Cuba, Senor Dr. Pedro Martinez. Fraga, and the members of the Embassy staff and their wives. Mrs. Martinez, who received with*: Dr Martinez, wore an afternoon dress of a brilliant shade of blue and white print, made1,1 on empire lines, with very short sleeves. She wore a dia mond clip in her hair and her flowers were a corsage bouquet of gardenias and lilies of the valley. Mrs Martinez was assisted in en tertaining her guests by Scr.ora de HerTera-Arango, wife of the second secretary of the Cuban Embassy, and by her sister, Miss Mary Kathryn Kurdle, who came from Baltimore to be present at the party. Mr. and Mrs. Harding Hosts at Supper. Another delightful party which was j held in Greenwich Forest last evening was the buffet supper given by Mr. j and Mrs. John Canney Harding. The supper was followed by a musi cale at which two of the guests, Mrs. William Leachman, who has a sweet contralto voice, and Mr. Kenneth Craft, a talented pianist, presented a short musical program. Mrs. Harding chose for the party a gown of white mousseline de soie trimmed with Chantilly lace that is an heirloom in her family and a corsage of orchids. In addition to Mrs. Leachman and Mr. Craft, the guests at the party were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Altemus, Mr and Mrs. Alvin Aubinoe, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas De Lashmutt. Mr. and Mrs. William E. Mrs. John Cooper Guest of the Heiners. Mrs. John Cooper has come from her home in Oaklyn, N. J„ for a visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Comdr. and Mrs. John N. Heiner, in Battery Park. Tomorrow Mrs. Cooper will be hon or guest /at a tea which Mrs. Heiner will give to introduce her mother to her friends in Battery Park and also in the service. Mrs. Heiner has invited a small group of close friends for bridge early in the afternoon and a larger group will come in later for the tea which will follow the bridge party. Mrs. Balch More, who recently came to Washington from Bonham, Tex., will assist Mrs. Heiner in entertaining her guests and will preside at the tea table. Mrs. J. Henry Brown will entertain at a “wistaria” luncheon on Wednes day, carrying out a custom which she started several years ago at this sea son of the year. Her home, in ^lta Vista, is known y_- __ to many people in that neighborhood because of its beautiful wistaria vines. And each year at this season, when the wistaria is in bloom, Mrs. Brown invites her friends to a "wistaria” luncheon. Tables will be placed in the arbor if the weather is favorable Or in the house in case of rain. Mrs. Brown, who ras recently re turned from Port Myers, Pla., where she has spent the winter, has planned a series of parties which she will give during the spring and early summer. Col. and Mrs. Roy Jones, who re sided on Grafton street, Chevy Chase, several years ago, have returned to Washington from San Antonio, Tex., where Col. Jones has been stationed for the past two years, and have leased a house on Moorland lane, in Edge moor. Mr. and Mrs. Bachrach Leaving for Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bachrach of Edgemoor expect to leave this week for Chicago, where Mrs. Bachrach will stay for a short visit. Prom Chi cago Mr. Bachrach will go to Northern Wisconsin for a week's fishing trip. His trip will take him to the lakes and streams along The Brule, where the late President Coolidge fished for brooktrout some years ago when he and Mrs. Coolidge spent a summer in Winconsin. Mrs. Charles I. Corby, who has been in Florida since early in Janu ary, will return to the Farm, the Corby estate on Rockville pike, on Tuesday. Miss Harriett Hawley of Louisville, Ky„ is expected to come to Kenwcod today to spend a week oy 10 days with Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Brodesser. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bateman Morris, jr., and their small daughter of Be thesda left today for Greensboro, N. C., where they will visit Mrs. Norris’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harbin S. Chandler. Mr. Morris will return to Bethesda some time this week, while Mrs. Morris will remain in Greensboro for <a 10-day period.
