Nov. 18.—Medium priced railway loans tilted upward in an otherwise even bond market today. Rail leaders, scanning the new trade pacts with Great Britain and Canada giving the United States wide concessions on duties- on farm products, saw possible stimulation of freight traffic if tariff modifica tions carry out their intended pur pose of stimulating Anglo-American business. f Fractions to one or more higher near midday were Erie First 4s of ’P6, Delaware & Hudson Refunding 4s. Illinois Central 434S, Northern Pacific 4s, and Southern Railway 4s. A shade lower were Nickel Plate 4'2s and 5’-jS. Industrial and utility loans were ; steady. Fractions higher were Beth lehem Steel 4'2s, Goodyear 5s. and j Columbia Gas & Electric 5s (May),| and slightly lower were Remington i Rand 4 h and American Foreign Power 5s. Alleghany 5s of '49 were around a point off. U. S. Government stood almost neglected, with scattered trades showing gains of l-32d of a point ^to declines of 3-32ds. Italy 7s edged ahead in the foreign list, while Japanese issues were easier. __.-— Dividends Announced NEW YORK. Nov. IS—Dividend1! de clared 'Prepared by the Standard Sta tistics Co.). Accumulated. LONDON, Nov. 18.—1The Anglo American trade agreement bright ened the tone of the stock market to day. Recently it has been under the shadow of the International political situation. British government stocks were fractionally firmer in early dealings. Leading industrial and textile shares affected by the tariff reduc tions were marked slightly higher. Trans-Atlantic issues were about in line with the previous New York closing quotations. In the foreign exchange market the pound sterling Improved early against the dollar. It touched $4.71 *«, compared with yesterday's $4.70’2. but later eased to S4.7078. The official exchange control sold dollars late in the day. but renewed continental buying of the American unit held the price relatively steady. Final rate was $4.70\, off of a cent. In the stock market final prices were a shade under the best levels of the day, but the closing tone was firm. Some exchange dealers expressed the belief the trade agreement would [ have brought a better tendency for j sterling against the dollar had it not | been for the German-Jevish situa ! tion, which was said to have been inducing holders to retain their dol , lars. At Liverpool enlarged import quotas for American hams, cured pork and other pork products had a weakening effect on the provision market. American Wiltshire bacon in the 55-65-pound range declined '4 shillings 'about $1' a hundred weight to 70 shillings 'about $17.50'. | Canadian Wiltshires were off 5 - shillings. PARIS. Nov. 18 </Pi.—■United States j dollars were quoted 37.87 francs <2.640 cents to the franc in final foreign exchange transactions to ! day.
