First of Two Leaders'
Conferences Attended
By 200 Persons
The maintenance of a normal
trend of life in the community, re
gardless of the international sit
uation, was given yesterday as one
of the objectives of the District
Congress of Parents and Teach
ers at the first of two of its leader
conferences in the boardroom of the
National Education Association.
Yesterday’s conference, marked
by discussions of many phases of
work of Parent-Teacher groups, was
attended by more than 200 per
sons, including presidents of va
rious Parent-Teacher Associations
and group leaders.
The congress will seek to interest
persons In comfortable economic
circumstances in helping carry for
ward work in less favored sections
of the city, it was announced.
The meeting was opened by Mrs.
C, D. Lowe, new president of the
congress. Mrs. O. G. Hankins, chair
man of the Organization Committee;
Mrs. Earle Sapp and Mrs. Walter B.
Fry, past president of the congress
and chairman of hospitality, were
among the speakers.
Mrs. P. C. Ellett, vic/e president of
the congress, told of the annual
George Washington Parent-Teacher
Institute to be held at George
Washington University on November
1 and 2. The institute is conducted
through the co-operation of the uni
versity and the Congress of Parents
and Teachers. Mrs. Ellett is being
assisted in making arrangements for
the affair by Miss Myrtle Moore, a
teacher at Paul Junior High School.
The second leaders’ conference
will be held at 9 a.m. next Thursday
in the N. E. A. Building.

VICKSBURG, Miss., Sept. 22 OP).—
Col. Charles Glenn Collins, 59,
