Dr. Bash to Preach At Ninth Street Christian Church Des Moines (Iowa) Pastor Will Occupy Pulpit Tomorrow Morning Dr. Floyd Allen Bash, pastor of the Central Christian Church in Des Moines. Iowa, who is attending the international convention of the Churches of the Disciples of Christ In Richmond. Va„ will preach to morrow at 11 a.m. at the Ninth Street Christian Church on "What It Means to Be a Christian.” Mr. and Mrs. George Moudy will sing during the offertory "Give My Thy Heart." and the choir anthem will be "The Lord Is My Light," by Parker. The Junior Church meets at 11 o'clock in the church house. "Grati tude" will be the theme. Jane Payne, Dorothy De Vault, Davie Davis and Edward Comingore will take part on the program. The Rev. William George Orem will preach at 7:45 p.m. on “The Hour of Destiny and the Throne of Glory.” The orchestra will play and Mrs. Lola M. Hatten will sing “The promise of Life," by Cowen. The Sunday school business meet ing will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. The subject is “Special Days.” The guest speaker will be Virgil A. Ely. executive secretary of the de partment of financial resources of the United Christian Missionary Society. Emory Methodist Topics For Tomorrow Listed The Rev. Horace E. Irving A. Lehman, and treasurer, Walter Shropshire. L. M. Replogle will con tinue as teacher. * Central Presbyterian To Take Part in Drive At Central Presbyterian Church Dr. James H. Taylor will preach to morrow morning on “A Spiritual Crusade.” Throughout the Southern Presbyterian Church there is being planned an evangelistic campaign to be known as “A Presbyterian Evangelistic Crusade.” This plan in cludes all the churches throughout the general assembly. It is expected that a conference for the Presby tery of Potomac, of which this church is a member, will be held at an early date. Speakers from different parts of the country will be invited to take part. In the evening Dr. Taylor will epeak on “The Importance of Be lief.” The Young People's Friday Night Class will meet next Friday at 6 o'clock. 'Loyalty to Church' Is Sermon Subject At the Columbia Heights Christian Church tomorrow the Rev. Harvey Baker Smith, from Marshall, Mo., former pastor of the church, will preach on "Loyalty to the Church.” It is the occasion of the annual birthday service, when a special of fering for the building fund of the church will be taken. In the eve ning the Rev. A. P. Wilson will lead the adult forum with the topic, “The Personnel of the Kingdom of Heav en.” Leaders for the youth forums will be Marjorie Wydro and David Fritts. Devotional leader will be Doris Carneal. The church birthday dinner will be held Thursday at 6:15, when offi cers of the church will be elected. The Rev. Mr. Smith and the Rev. Mr. Wilson will officiate tonight at the wedding of Miss Jane Edmon ston. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Da vid B. Edmonston, to Mr. J. Edward Eicher of this city. Hamline Methodist Service to Honor Frances Willard W. C. T. U. President Here to Take Part; Other Activities I A service commemorating the cen tenary of the birth of Frances Wil lard will be held in Hamline Meth odist Church tomorrow at 8 p.m. Dr. H. W. Burgan will speak on "Frances Willard—Methodist.” Mrs. William H. Ramsay, president of the W. C. T. U. of the District of Columbia, and Mrs. Fohl C. Brinley, secretary of the Scientific Temper ance Instruction, will participate. At 11 a m. the 11th annual Joash chest day service will be observed. A brief address will be given by the minister Mrs. Reta Peterson will have charge of the Junior Hi-League at 6 p.m. At the Hi-League the an nual election of officers will occur. The Rev. Earl G. Kernahan, pas tor of the Methodist Church at Brooklyn Heights, Md., will address the Epworth League at 6:45 p.m. His subject will be the third of a series of addresses on "Personal De i velopment." His special topic will be "Being Christian in Every Day Living.” Miss Ruth Miller will be the leader. Wednesday, from 5:30 to 7 o'clock, the Mizpah Circle will give a chick en-pie dinner. Bastion Speak Tomorrow On the 96th anniversary of its founding, the historic Ryland Church will break ground for its new edifice at Branch avenue and S street S.E. tomorrow at 3:30. Dr. Edgar C. Beery, district superintend ent of the East Washington district, will dedicate the ground and speak. The soil will be turned by Mrs. Fred M. Cawson and Mrs. William Houl ton. Walter M. Bastian, president of the Methodist Union of Washington, will speak briefly. Others to bring greetings are the Rev. Glenn Fau cett of the East Washington Heights Baptist Church, J. W. Martin of the Hillcrest Community, George Barker of the Randall Highlands Commun ity and T. J. Lynch of the Mount Dome and Hollywood Park Com munities. The invocation will be given by the Rev. Edward Barkley Wilcox, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church. The building, to be erected at this time, will constitute the ground floor of the main sanctuary. The complete group of stone buildings will include the church, the edu cational building and the parson age, to be erected at a cost of about $75,000. Fred M. Kramer, architect, has planned the church group in the spirit of the English country churches, and has planned a unique open-air sanctuary for summer eve ning services with rustic benches and with parking facilities to en able persons to hear the service from their cars. A corner garden is also emphasized in the planning. It is proposed to complete the sanctuary upon the sale of the old church property. The 11 a m. service tomorrow will be the 96th anniversary service, when the pastor's theme will be “We Shall Build On." Metropolitan Methodist Helps Mark Dad's Day In co-operation with the Students' Christian Association of the Amer ican University, who will be observ ing their annual dad's day at the college, the Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church will welcome the students and parents at the 11 o'clock service. The Rev. William Andrew Keese will preach on “Dwelling Where Our Fathers Pio neered.” At 8 p.m. the first of a series of six meetings of the Institute of Com munity Relations will be held. The Rev. John L. Mixon of the depart ment of social welfare, the Wash ington Federation of Churches, will speak on "Religion and Our Social Needs.” Others in the series will be: “Religion and Crime.” “Religion and Minority Groups,” “Religion and Peace,” “Religion and Mental Health” and “Religion and Educa tion.” Authorities in each field will speak. Christ Lutheran The Rev. J. Frederic Wenchel will speak tomorrow morning o n Luther's hymn. “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” its meaning and the role it has played in history. In the evening at 6 o'clock the Walther League will meet. There will be supper followed by a topic discus sion on prayer. This will be follow ed by a social planned by members who are natives of the District. On Wednesday evening the Ladies’ Aid Society will give its annual oyster supper. N. D. Wells of Dallas. Tex. He is a delegate to the International Convention of Disciples of Christ, now in session at Richmond. Va. Dr. Wells is minister of one of the largest churches in the Brotherhood of the Disciples, with a membership of over 3.000 It stands first in gifts to missions, benevolence and educa tion. He has had notable successful pastorates at East Orange. N. J.; Akron, Ohio, and now at Dallas, Tex. He is a graduate of Union Theolog ical Seminary, past president of the International Convention of Disci ples of Christ, a n ember of many boards of colleges and missionary organizations, and a popular preacher and speaker before college and convention groups. Dr. and Mrs. Wells will be the guests of Dr. and Mrs. R. H. Miller during their visit to Washington. The young people will meet for tea in the parish hall at 6 o’clock. The various young people’s groups will meet at 6:45 for a short devo tional period. The first meeting of the Women’s Federation will be held in the lec ture room on Wednesday evening. Dr. Marshall will lead the devotion als. The speaker will be Rabbi Norman Gerstenfeld. His topic will be “The Jew: International Pawn." Music will be furnished by a treble quartet from the church choir. A social will follow. On October 27, from 11:30 to 3 o'clock, the Wednesday Morning Guild will give a luncheon and bake sale in the parish hall.
