Luhring of Dis trict Court yesterday approved the sale of the La Salle Apartments property, Connecticut avenue and L street N.W., for $786,000 to a note holders’ committee as a result of a recent auction sale on the court house steps. A decree confirming the sale was signed by Justice Luhring, who ob served that under all the circum stances the bids of the noteholders’ committee of $566,000 for the south section leasehold and $220,000 for the north section leasehold were ‘‘fair, reasonable and adequate,” and that there is no likelihood that upon re sales a larger sum would be bid for both leaseholds together or for either separately. The sale of the La Salle leasehold estates was made to Stanton C. Peelle, Walter B. Guy. Edmund D. Campbell, L. Russell Alden and Francis W. Hill, jr., representing the committee. Trustees for the north section of :he La Salle Apart ments are Stephen F. Colladay and Ralph D. Qulnter, while those for the south leasehold are James A. Purcell and Mr. Qulnter. The south sectiqn has a heating plant, elevators and other facilities, as well as the lobby, but these are used by both sections of the apart ment house. Henceforth the note holders propose to operate the two sections as one complete enterprise. Justice Luhring was advised that the appraised value of $700,000 cov- 1 ers the leaseholds of north and south sections. Longfellow Stamps Place on Sale By the Associated Press. PORTLAND, Me., Feb. 16 —One cent stamps commemorating Henry Wadsworth Longfellow went on sale today in this city, where the poet was bom, and Postmaster Helen C. Donahue estimated more than 150, 000 “first day covers” would be sent to philatelists. Among them was a special enve lope, almost 2 feet long, addressed to President Roosevelt, the Nation's No. 1 collector. It contained a rare engraving of Longfellow in addition to full sheets of the stamps. Twenty-five special clerks were employed at the post office to handle philatelists' mailings as well as window sales. Mrs. Donahue said several thou sand covers held up at Boston yes terday by the blizzard would be given first-day treatment even if they did not arrive in time for mail ing today.
