ATLANTA, Feb. 24.—The Ameri can Federation of Labor here next week end will launch an organiza tion drive in fields which heretofore * have resisted unionization. Headed by Federation President 4 William Gfeen, representatives of 10 l Southeastern States numbering 2,OOP or more plan a three-day discus sion of organization, legislative and other problems affecting both em ployes and employers. a Mr. Green, who will deliver a 4 Nation-wide radio speech next Saturday night, said at a Miami a meeting earlier this month the federation would place particular « emphasis on the South and West in membership activities. * He estimated the drive would pro duce 500,000 new members by Octo ber. which he said would give the *> federation more than 4,500,000 on its t rolls. The drive in the South will be concentrated on textiles, retail trade, “ marine workers, office and white col lar workers. Government employes and “miscellaneous industries,” he 6aid. 1* Meeting with the yarious State boards here will be heads of the A. F. of L.’s organization and legis J lative departments. “There is no fixed program,” said ; * George Googe, Southern representa- i tive of the A. F. of L., today, “but organization discussions will pre dominate. We also plan discussion of existing labor legislation in the Southeast, with the aim of bringing about more uniformity in existing laws.” i Along with Mr. Green will come from Washington Joseph A. Pad way, chief counsel of the A. F. of L. and chairman of the Legislative Committee; Frank P. Fenton, di rector of organization; George Meany. secretary and treasurer; I. M. Ornburn. secretary of the Union Label Trades Department, and i Others. The 10 States to be represented are Virginia. North and South Caro lina. Georgia. Tennessee, Kentucky. I Mississippi. Alabama, Louisiana and Florida. Arlington Camera Club To Exhibit Prints The Arlington <Va.) Camera Club will place its prints, together with the third annual travel salon of the Photographic Society of America, on exhibition in the National Mu seum Saturday. The public may see the exhibition j until March 31 in the Natural His tory Building of the National Mu seum. Tenth street and Constitution avenue N.W. Judging the display will be three prominent local photographers. Miss Eleanor P. Custis. H. E. West and D. R. Craig. Tucker, recently elected international secretary treasurer of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, will preside at a meeting of the local unit of the auxiliary at j 8 p.m. Wednesday at 903 U street N.W. Mrs. Tucker was honored on February 16 at a testimonial dinner given by the auxiliary at the White law Hotel. She organized the auxiliary 14 years ago and assisted in the formation of the local group.
