DUNKERQUE—ALLIES EVACUATED IN GREATEST RETREAT
IN HISTORY—Thousands of British and French troops massed
on the beach of this Channel port awaiting ships to return them
to England, according to a British censor-approved caption.
Photo radioed from London to New York today. British reports
estimated 335.000 Allied troops were evacuated from the Ger
man-held pocket in Flanders.

dent of Riggs National Bank, as its
chairman and named Wilbur J.
Carr, former Assistant Secretary of
State, as an alumni member of the
board for a three-vear term.
Senator Clark. Democrat, of Mis
souri, who has served as an alumni

trustee since 1934, was re-elected for
a three-year term. Both Senator
Clark and Mr. Carr, who was the
last American Minister to Czecho
slovakia, were elected on the nomi
nation of alumni of the university.
Others re-elected for three-year
terms were Charles S. Baker, Wash
ington attorney’; John St. Clair
Brookes, jr., also a local attorney;
John Henry Cowles, Charles Carroll
Glover, jr.; Arthur Peter, Mrs. Henry
Alvah Strong and Merle Thorpe,
editor of Nation's Business.
The entire slate of officers was

re-elected by the board. In addi
tion to Mr. Fleming, they are Mr.
Peter, vice chairman, and Dr. Harry

anticipated on a Senate-approved
bill to give the National Capital a
new code of laws, officials of the Bar
Association of the District of Co
lumbia announced today. Chairman
