Residential Washington News Notes Mr. and Mrs. Carr Go to Lake Placid For the Season Former United States Minister to Czecho-Slovakia and Mrs. Wilbur J. Carr have closed their house and gone to Lake Placid for the re mainder of the season. Mrs. Emil Hurja has returned from a short visit in Atlantic City with her father, Capt. A. C. Andrea sen, following a week's stay at Charmian, Pa., where she was the guest of the former United States Ambassador to Chile and Mrs. Wil liam S. Culbertson. Mr. Hurja will leave late this week for Chicago to remain through the convention. Mr. Edward Alexander and his daughters, Miss Sylvia Alexander and Miss Louise Alexander, have gone to East Hampton, Long Island, where they recently purchased a summer home. Mr. Alexander was accompanied by his son, Mr. James Alexander, making the trip by motor to Long Island. Their home there was selected by the late Mrs. Alex ander before her death and named by her Sterling Haven, after the first owner of the island, who re ceived a giant from the British Crown, and also for Mr. Alexander's Scottish ancestors, whose name was Sterling. Mrs. Arthur Cohen has returned from Miami after spending the sea son there with her mother. Dr. and Mrs. Edwin H. Silver have opened their cottage at Sherwood Forest for the summer and have with them their daughter Betty. Dr. Silver returned to Washington today and will join his family for Week ends through the summer. Miss Viola S. Schantz. treasurer I of the American Society of Mammal- | ogists, has returned to Washington I from Colorado, where she attended the society’s convention in Denver. Miss Schantz also visited in Rocky Mountain National Park and Colo rado Springs. Women’s City Club , Get-Together Dinner Thursday Many interesting events are sched uled for this month at the Women’s City Club. A get-together dinner, followed by entertainment, will be held Thursday at 6 p.m., with Mrs. Julia Benton Hopkins and Mis. Gus j Schuldt as hostesses. Motion pictures of London, taken by Mrs. Gladys Middlemiss, club president, on a visit to England be fore the outbreak of European Hos tilities, will be shown under the auspices of the Library Committee on July 16, at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. A House Committee j meeting will be held July 17, at 11 j a.m., and on July 18. a dinner and ' program will be given at 6 pm. Hostesses will include Miss Criena Mahoney and Miss Lotlic Anderson. The final get-together dinner of the month will be held July 25. at 6 p.m., with Miss Isabel Allen and Mrs. Helen B. Montague as hostesses. ' D. A. R. Press Relations Group Plans Conference A meeting of the Press Relations j Committee of the District Daughters ! of the American Revolution with representatives of the 60 local chap ters and club editors of the local papers has been announced for Sep tember 25 at 8 p.m., at the Chapter House, 1732 Massachusetts avenue N.W., by Mrs. Ellen C. Callicott, State chairman, Press Relations Committee. Mrs. Callicott left yesterday for a three-week vacation. She will visit the Yellowstone National Park, Den ver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Victoria, British Columbia; Lake Louise and BanfT. She is accompanied by Miss Mar garet I. Fraser of Maj. L'Enfant Chapter, former State chairman, press relations, and Mrs. Bertha M. Robertson of Sagoyewatha Chapter, Seneca Falls. N. Y. Mrs. Callicott is a member of Louisa Adams Chapter. She and her companions are all members of the Society of Mayflower De scendants of the District of Co lumbia. They are expected to return to Washington on July 30.
