dent of Montgomery County, Md„
for more than 70 years and former
superintendent of county roads, died
Tuesday at Garfield Memorial Hos
pital. He made his home at 34 West
Baltimore street, Kensington.
A contractor, Mr. Knight con
structed a number of avenues in
Northwest Washington and later was
instrumental in developing the road
system in Montgomery County. He
served as business manager of the
Metropolitan Club from 1899 to 1908.
Born in Burlington, N. J., Mr.
Knight was the son of the late Rev.
Franklin L. Knight,,who at one time
served as assistant minister of St.
John’s Church in Washington. His
mother was the late Lavlnia Howard
Dorsey of Maryland.
From 1881 to 1888 he was agent for
the Baltimore A; Ohio Railroad at
Rockville. He then became a road
supervisor in Virginia, North Caro
lina and Ohio, and later aided in
developing Wisconsin and Connecti
cut avenues and other highways in
and about Washington. He also was
an assessor for Montgomery County
at one time.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Mildred
Eliza Owen Knight, he is survived
by four sons and four daughters:

BALTIMORE, Dec. 9.—Dr. Wil
liam Rosenau, 78-year-old rabbi
emeritus of Oheb Shalom Congre
gation and one of the best-known

early today at Sinai Hospital.
He had been rabbi emeritus since
September, 1940. Prior to that time
Dr. Rosenau served 48 years as
rabbi. His only other charge during
his career was a temple at Omaha.

Senate, Dies at Capitol
Daniel B. Lloyd, 83, of Bowie. Md.,
dean of official reporters of debate
In the Senate, died at the Capitol
yesterday after suffering a heart
attack. He collapsed in a corridor
near the Senate chamber and was
given emergency treatment.
He was pronounced dead by Dr.
Thomas Watson, assistant Capitol
Mr. Lloyd, who was appointed an
amanuensis in Congress October 15,
1877, at the beginning of the 45th
Congress, was a native of Anne
Arundel County. Md. He was self
taught in stenography.
A veteran of 66 years service, at
the time of his appointment he was
one of six young stenographers,
whose duty was to report Senate
debates in shorthand.
There were no dictaphones such
as debate reporters use today to dic
tate their reports, later to be tran
scribed by typists. When Mr. Lloyd
was appointed, they transcribed in
longhand, using old-fashioned three
pointed pens. Mr. Lloyd had been
working daily on “the floor” since
