Planning Association
Renews Fight on Plan
For Potomac Power
Continued opposition to plans for
development of hydroelectric power
on the Potomac above Washington,
thus ruining the present scenic
beauty of the stream below Great
Falls, was expressed in a resolution
adopted late yesterday by the
Board of Directors of the American
Planning and Civic Association.
The board re-elected Frederic A.
Delano as its chairman for the cur
rent year. Other officers chosen
were: Horace M. Albright, presi
dent: Samuel P. Weatherill, Richard
Lieber and Esrle S. Draper, vice
presidents: C. F. Jacobson, treas
urer, and Harlean James, executive
secretary.

scenery from Great Falls to the
Federal City. The board gave ac
tive support to the stand of the
National Capital Park and Plan
ning Commission that the best use
of the river and its shores in the
vicinity of Washington is in the de
velopment of the George Washing
ton Parkway and now submits that
the decision of Congress to make
funds available for this purpose was
in effect an approval of the plan.
“The board believes that no new
reasons have occurred for chang
ing this policy of the National
Capital Park and Planning Com
mission and Congress.”

vided for: Strengthening of local
planning boards throughout the
United States, a permanent na
tional planning board established
by Congress, slum reclamation and
new urban developments in cities,
opposition to the indiscrlminste
placing of billboards and organiza
tion of a joint committee for the
National Capitol.

from establishing new national
