Irregularity Persists t As Stock Dealings Remain Sluggish By VICTOR EUBANK, A>«ocut»d Prtts Pltuncl*! Writer. NEW YORK. April 28.--Special ties. along with selected steels, mo tors, rails and oils, attracted the principal bidding in today’s stock market, while many leaders else where encountered sufficient selling to stall their recovery. Possible foreign developments over the week end inspired a little profit taking here and there on the two session comeback. Mild Investment demand continued, however, on tne idea the list had been pretty well sold out because of preinvasion nervousness, and was in much better technical shape. Narrow irregularity persisted at the start, and the direction was a bit obscure near the fourth hour. Dealings remained sluggish. In front most of the time were Schenley, American Bosch, United States Steel, Bethlehem, General Motors, Chrysler, Santa Fe, Chesa peake & Ohio, Sears-Roebuck, Oliver Farm, Houston Oil, Standard Oil (N. J.) and Anaconda. Lag gards included Southern Pacific, General Electric, North American, Montgomery Ward, United Aircraft and J. C. Penney. Farm Prices Index Declines Point From 1943 Mid-April Level The general level of farm prices remained unchanged during the month which ended April 15. That index, however, was 1 point below the average of a year ago. The Agriculture Department re ported that the farm price index was 196 per cent of the 1909-14 average on April 15, compared with 195 per cent a year ago. A sharp rise in fruit prices during the month was offset by a decline in prices of livestock and livestock products. The department said the farm price average was 115 per cent of parity—the so-called level of fair exchange with Industrial products and services—on April 15, compared with 112 per cent a year ago. All principal farm products were at or above parity except wheat, cotton, hay, peanuts, rye and lemons.
