• % Women Voters League Prepares Data for Absentee Voters' Use The Voteless District of Columbia League of Women Voters is prepar ing absentee ballot information for persons in the service and others stationed here who maintain voting privileges in tneir home States. Mrs. Eugene Duffleld, president of the league, announced today. Ballot information for Kansas, Missouri, Virginia, Wisconsin, Ken tucky and Vermont, States holding primaries in August, is given below. In announcing formation of the committee, which will have charge of the program, Mrs. Duffleld said that "ideally, every citizen oi this country should work in the party of his choioe. Failing that, he can best guide his party’s activities through the nomination of good candidates at the primaries.” Requirements Listed. The league listed the following absentee voting requirements and primary dates for the August pri mary States: Kansas—Must have been resident of state six months, of ward for 30 days; registration for civilians, 10 days before primary; registration for armed forces not required; bal lot application for civilians may be obtained from county clerks before July 21; ballot application for armed forces from commanding offlcer; ballots returned by July 31; date of primary is August 1. Missouri—Must have been resident of State one year, county and pre cinct, 60 days; registration in per son for civilians but waived for armed forces; post card form ob tainable from commanding offlcer; ballot returned August 2; primary, August 1. Virginia—State residence one year, county, six months, and precinct, 30 days; poll tax, $1.50 annually; per manent registration and new reg istrants must appear in person up to 15 days before primary (civilians); poll tax and registration waived for servicemen; ballot application, send 23 cents to secretary of State, stat ing party, location and length of State residence (civilians); for serv icemen, ballot application from com manding officer; primary August 1. One-Year Residence. Kentucky — State residence one year, county, six months, and pre cinct, 60 days; civilian and service men procedure alike, with regastra tion application to secretary of State at Frankfort; ballot returned August 5; primary August 5. Vermont — State residence one ya*r and precinct 3 months; for civilians, send handwritten request for ballot to town clerk; for service men, post card form from command ing officer; ballots returned four days before primary, August 8. Wisconsin — Residence one year and precinct 10 days; for civilians, registration and ballot application from town or county clerk; for servicemen, registration waived and ballot from commanding officer; bal lots returned on day of primary, August 15. Realty Firms Ask Hearing on Rent Ceilings Two New York real estate firms today were the first organizations in the country to take advantage of new provisions in the Xknergency Price Control and Stabilization Acts under which they can request the price administrator to immediately hear their protests against maxi mum rent ceilings imposed by the OPA. The acts were amended on June 30 to extend them for another year, with the new provision added. Un der the proviso a hearing can be ordered “to be held at once or with in two weeks of date of petition." Previously the price administra tor did not have to act within a specified time.
