Nazis Lose 10 Ships In Convoy to British Warships Off Norway By th* Associated Press. LONDON, Nov. 15.—The British Home Fleet struck another blow at what is left of German seapower Sunday night, soon after the sink ing of the battleship Tirpitz by the RAF, when it blew up or sank nine ships of an 11-ship convoy off Nor way and drove a 10th Nazi vessel ashore, it was disclosed last night. Two cruisers and four destroyers swooped down on the German con voy rounding Lister Fjord, south of Egersund, Norway, traveling north and inflicting the losses without any* material damage to themselves. The Nazi convoy, an admiralty com munique reported, included several M-class minesweepers and was taken entirely by surprise. "In order to carry out the attack,” the communique said, "his majesty’s ships had to steam close inshore, bringing them within range of enemy coastal batteries. The shore batteries joined in the action, but their fire, although spectacular, was ineffective and none of his majesty’s ships sustained any material dam age.” British Casualties Small. It added that there was a small number of British casualties. An interpretation of aerial photo graphs yesterday revealed the Tir pitz did not turn over completely when she was sunk because her su perstructure is lodged in the seabed. Only a part of the bottom and the starboard side of the vessel can be seen. The total length above the water is approximately 720 feet. The center and starboard propeller shafts can be seen, but the port shaft is under water. Members of the famous RAF "dam buster”.gang related that at least four and possibly five direct hits with 12,000-pound bombs sank the Tirpitz, 29 Bombs Dropped. Each of the 29 aircraft dropped an earthquake bomb, making a total of 164 tons plummeted on the tar get. The crewmen said that before the 41.000-ton German battleship went down, she made one last des perate attempt to save herself by firing on the Lancasters with her 16-inch guns. These picked crews—Canadians, Australians, Englishmen and Scots men—had flown more than 10.000 miles in the last two months trying to get the Tirpitz. Yesterday they came to London, where they were wined, dined and paraded. "We knew we could sink her if we could get a clear visual run.” said Wing Commander James B. Tait, 27. He said two special-duty Lancaster squadrons had been doing little else but planning the knockout blow on the Tirpitz for two months.
