A native of

would say nothing of her work over
seas but that she was a cryptog
rapher in the Signal Corps.
As a matter of fact, she was one
of the first two WACS to be trained
in cryptographic duties — which
added to other firsts to her credit.
In the original group of about a
dozen WACS to enlist in Washing
ton, she also was in the first com
pany of enlisted WACS to go
overseas in January, 1943.
Serving in Algiers most of the
time, she was sent to Italy several
months ago and wears a star for
combat duty in Italy as well as a
Tunisian campaign ribbon.
They Have Money.
Here are some of her memories
of life overseas:
The stars in Africa are more
beautiful than one can imagine.
“You could even see the points,”
she said.
Algiers is a beautiful city, with
flowers and palm trees, but it is so
cold you wonder about tropical
plants. .

After you’ve been out, no matter

She missed seafood and eggs most.
She will never forget the brief
