No doubt it is convenient for
story-telling purposes to have the
cities in your fiction serial, “No
Other Man,” by Alfred Noyes,
remain intact. But as a matter of
fact most cities and towns the
world over would go up in smoke
almost as thoroughly as though
the death ray had been an atomic
bomb.
There would be three main
causes: (1) Automobiles out of
control would crash into buildings
and in many cases burn. (2) Ciga
rettes would be dropped every

unchecked. (3) Electric irons left
on goods or falling to the floor
would dot a city with burning
houses, apartments, laundries and
tailor shops.

We are wondering why the article
on the North Carolina Symphony
Orchestra was headed ‘‘Mountain
Music."
Is it the idea that North Caro
linians are all mountaineers and
therefore their state symphony or
chestra would play nothing but
hillbilly music?
You will note from our program
that only selections from Bach,
Prokofieff, Liszt, Tschaikowsky
and Strauss are included. We hope
that sometime you can come down
and hear some of the orchestra's
hillbilly tunes.

tion, “How To Be a Spy." He not
only tickles my funny bone, he
gives it a compound fracture. He
twists our language so that even
its own father wouldn’t recog
nize it.
He takes this mad world of ours
and puts a maraschino cherry of
mirth on top of it, and it seems
strangely palatable under his curi
ous culinary touch of comedy.
