Record Student Body
Predicted for G. U.
As Veterans Enroll
I Returned veterans have increased
Georgetown University's enrollment
this month to a scant 100 below the
12,505 students enrolled before Pearl
Harbor, and President Lawrence C.
Gorman. S. J., said today the next
quarter-term in July should see the
largest student body in the school’s
history.
The 1940-41 enrollment, the rec
ords show, represented the fruits of
a 10-year "come-back" from ap
proximately the same size student
body in 1931-32, when the depres
sion began making heavy inroads.
More than half of the April en
rollment is made up of former serv
icemen.
Increased registrations in the
college of arts and sciences, hard hit
by selective service during the war,
have necessitated the appointment
of an assistant dean to help take
I some of the burden off the shoul
I ders of the Rev. Stephen F. Mc
| Namee, S. J., who is being swamped
| now with applications for next July
| and October terms.
| The new assistant is the Rev.
Charles L. Coolahan, S. J., associate
professor of philosophy in the col
i lege for the past seven years. A

graduate also of

school in 1931,

lastic in Manila.
One department at Georgtown,
the school of foreign service, has
been forced to stop admissions for
the remainder of this academic
year, except those of former students
discharged from the services. It has
about reached the limit of class
room facilities with a current en
rollment of 610 students, three
fourths of whom are veterans. Of
ficials said it has been necessary
to turn down more than 1,000 ap
plicants, mostly veterans, for lack
of space.
