Mr. Hahn lauded most of the amendments approved by the House for curtailment of OPA policies but expressed the belief that price con trol should be continued for another year, instead of the nine-month period approved by the House. "It may be that Congress has gone a little too far,” Mr. Hahn said. “Price control is still necessary, and I feel that it would be unsafe to remove it for another year.” . The speaker said that from the long-term point of view it might be best to end price control now but: expressed the belief that the dis location period following such a move “would be tough." “Many retailers would be hurt eventually by sudden removal of price controls and sharply spiraling prices would result in public con demnation of anything that looks like profiteering,” Mr. Hahn de clared. Mr. Hahn said most of the re strictive amendments approved by the House were vitally needed to free American economy from crippling OPA regulations. He said his or ganization never has been opposed to price control and had led the fight for it, but declared that many OPA rules were throttling industry. Turning to postwar production, Mr. Hahn said industry is willing and able to do its part. Sees $50,000,000 Business. William G. Hills, managing direc tor of the Electric Institute, also spoke at the dinner held in the presidential room of the Statler Hotel. Mr. Hills estimated the elec tric industry here expected to place more than $50,000,000 worth of elec trical equipment on the market dur ing the next three years. He disclosed that the institute will operate a year-around exhibit at the Potomac Electric Power Co. of fices, Tenth and E streets N.W., in cluding a theater which will show the various improvements in the home effected by electricity. A. G. Neal, president of PEPCO, said that during the next year the company will spend $230,000 on an extensive advertising campaign. Half of this amount will be spent for newspaper ads, one-fourth for radio programs and the remainder for display advertising and exploita tion, he said.
