Dead
1st Lt. Donald J. Prewitt, U. S. M
C. R., whose widow, Mrs. D. J. Pre
witt, is listed as living at 1910 Sud
bury road N.W., is presumed to be
dead, the Navy Department -an
nounced today.
The young officer had been over
seas a little more than a year at
the time he was reported missing in
South Pacific action on April 19
last year. A native of Miami, Olka.,
Lt. Prewitt trained at Quantico, Va.,
before going overseas.
Inductees
Three Washington men who have
j ben ordered to report for induction
[into the armed forces today are:
i Thomas Blaisdell, Robert Massey,
Howard Tucker.
Decorated
Col. Theodore C. Garber, whose
mother, Mrs. Matilda Garber, lives
at 1229 North Quincy street, Arling
ton. Va., recently was decorated
with the Legion of Merit for his
extraordinary record in preventing
loss of life, property and war ma
teriel in the manufacture of ex
plosives while he was field director
of ammunition plants at St. Louis,
and as chief of Hie Safety and
Security Division, Ordnance Depart
ment, with headquarters in Chicago.
The accompanying citation reads
that the safety record of Govern-]
ment-owned explosives installations
under Col. Garber’s supervision was j
"the best for all manufacturing in- '■
dustries in the United States.”
Lt. Col. Leonce R. Legendre, 4916
Westray drive, Chevy Chase, has
been awarded the Army Commenda
tion Certificate and Ribbon for his
outstanding service in connection
with civilian defense during the
war period in Washington.
From September 24. 1942 to No
vember 8 last year, Col. Legendre
acted as liaison officer between the
Military District of Washington
and the Director of Civilian De
fense.

First Division Veterans
Plan Dinner May 28
Washington veterans who served
in the 1st Division during the World
War will hold their annual Cantigny
dinner May 28 at the Mayflower
Hotel to celebrate the anniversary
of that battle.
Secretary of War Robert P. Pat
terson, Maj. Gen. Hanson E. Ely
(retired), Maj- Oen. Clarence R.
Huebner (retired) and Col. Robert
McCormick of Chicago, who were
officers in the 28th Infantry Regi
ment of the 1st Division, will speak.
William J. Crane, general chair
man of the dinner, sponsored by the
1st Division Society, said Lt. Gen.
Omar Bradley, Veterans’ Adminis
tration head, and Lt. Gen. Jacob L.
Devers also will attend.
